Do you think the web 5, 10 years from now will look much different than the web of today? Now that most people are online, have we settled on a "standard" for designing good UIs, or will the conventions continue to evolve?

I guess the bigest change will come from hardware and interface developments. I can image the standard desktop pc/mac will be a thing of the past in 10 years.

Agree w/ tile, new hardware will create new ways of thinking about how to use UI.

I could see computer systems moving towards a iPhone style of navigation and use. Obviously touch screens are the big thing these days with the Surface coming out and Apple working on something. I see interaction with the web pushing towards touch based movements, objects being moved around pages (drag an image to a video player), etc etc.
But then again who knows...i'm still waiting on my hoverboard.

displays will cease to exist as images will project on an imaginary plain in thin air; viewer will interact with hands passing through image
- a premium will be placed on colors that contrast with airhallelujah

clients will want a complete website done in under 15 minutes.

- yea i mean it only takes their little nephew 30 minutes now, so 15 minutes for the future is about rightPseuro

AOL 3.0 is the future of design

the web will be 3D - http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/e…

Personalization is pretty built into what we see now and i think that's always going to be important, it drives community and it drives relevance. In 5-10 years mood recognition should begin to emerge from this, and gesture interaction will by that time be king.

yes, it'll look a whole shitload better, and continue to get more useful.
if google keeps teaming up with adobe we'll see more full-flash sites i think. we won't be limited to the fonts on everyone's computer anymore as a (finally), and we'll see richer forms / interaction as standards.
more interactive online/offline HTML applications are coming with some of the standard shit coming in HTML 5, including client side SQL storage.

mobile web will continue to grow and be huge, especially with goog pushing android and apple pushing iphone. internet everywhere.

- the eclipse is not an eclipse. it is burnt earth, caused by servers on fire due to too much youtube nonsensejanne76

in the future websites will be animated, they will have animation across the entire page and no, it will not be done in html language or bb-edit, it will be done in a revolutionary application called flash.
and the world will look a lot better.

cool, can't wait

i am sure that image above has the magic.
watch it and the eclipse gets fuckign darker .

I think it has more to do with software developments than hardware...
Sure, the hardware will make everything run faster, but in the end it will be up to the designers and programmers to create the world.
I'm sure there'll be more touch screen interfaces, using physics and real-world behaviors so that when we interact with the screen it'll be more like how we interact with things on our desk. I'm waiting for internet glasses, so we can change how we see the world in real time while walking around. :)
- realize i just listed many hardware things... ;)SigDesign
