its funny how some agencies treat freelancers like total crap.. as if we're second rate citizens and are doing freelance because we can't find a "real" job.
dealt with a really condescending project manager today. the irony here is they were in a bind and needed a resource, yet the dude was giving me shit, trying to argue over petty nonsense and trying to push me around. uh, no, buh-bye.
i do not miss being an employee at an agency.

I have never felt unwelcome at an agency. I do however eel like I am being talked about behind my back at some places....
As a freelancer you should expect to get the shitty work and when you don't it's a bonus. I was bought in on a project to produce just concepts and the rest of the design team were not involved, they were not best pleased

As a freelancer you should make an effort to fit in at the agency, you're there to do a job but it's made a lot easier for you and the team around you if you're a bit outgoing that's for sure.

So True.
Makes such a difference if you introduce yourself to the entire design team from the start and try and integrate in conversation, etc...

I dunno - sometimes I feel it's best just to keep your head down and get on with the job you've been given. Some people don't like to see the freelancer who's earning $XXXXX more than them spending time getting to know the team when they know you're gonna be out of there in a few days...

Flounce in wearing a cravat and shout:
I'm getting £350 a day and tap in-house designer on the head.

The thing with freelancers called in by agencies and larger studios is that they're most often called in to DO the shittiest work. If a studio is at capacity it'll be the drudgery that they need to sub-out first, or in rare cases where specialised expertise is required.

As a freelancer who spent many years as permanant staff, I believe that only inhouse designers are really allowed to get angsty. Us freelancers get paid to deal with whatever is flung our way. If we don't like it, we don't have to go back.
There are loads of bad freelancers out there. Don't be one of them... The economy is about to go bust, don't burn your bridges :)

i very much enjoy getting thrown a completely mess of a project that no one wants and try to make something enjoyable out of it. and for the real nasty ones my availability magically decreases

i go freelance at the end of the year, might not have been the brightest idea i had handing in my notice considering the looming financial state of affairs...

don't worry, i'm sure you'll be laughing all the way to the bank
