Six figures isn't that much money if you are making lower six figures($100-200K) in NYC. Probably that's considered lower middle class here. You can have $100K cash in your saving but that won't even allow you to buy a 1 bedroom apartment.
The money is all relative. I constantly feel poor though by definition, I am supposed to be in top 4% of nation.

I've heard this about NYC. They talk about it a lot on the stern show.
I think it's all relative. I'm sure people that make $500k/yr have debt that's comparable to someone making $50k/yr. Take away that $500k income and they are really fucked!

a rough salary estimator:
hourly x 2
then
x 1000i.e.
20/hr x 2 = 40
so $20/hr is roughly $40,000/yearso you would need to make $50/hour in nyc to make 100k/year(assuming you can get steady work)
if you're not charging more than $50/hour then you need to:
a)start charging more than $50/hour or
b)do some more tutes and get better at your job.my last year in NY i never charged less than $100.
