look at the Netherlands and Switzerland.. there are other countries with universal health care that make it work. there tax rates are higher and the populous accepts it for the greater good.

if a 50+yr old retired woman who works her ass off and has a modest nest egg for retirement suddenly gets cancer and gets loaded up with medical bills, should she be expected to deplete her savings because that is the way the cookie crumbles? that is the american way?

that is not the america that i aspire to pass on. fuck that.
we spend 300x more than any country on defense. we give billions in aid countries all over the world.
we make cutsto the above and give our poor, vets, elderly and sick aid right here at home.

Bonseff, you serious? Not to say either of you are right, but 300 million people are funding both sides of a very expensive war right now. There's plenty-o-cash to go around.

A percentage of wages pay for oil, a percentage of taxes pay for the "war".

Consider there is still money still left over for all public assistance plans, public projects such as roads, dams, etc. 300 Million people, based on some math I'm pretty sure is flawed, from a number I got here: http://www.averagesalarysurvey.c… are earning 1.4353 trillion U.S. Dollars yearly. This says roughly a sixth of that is going to our government. Http://www.warresisters.org/page…

I'm sure that's enough to use hospital equipment that already exists for said patients that can afford the bill or are insured therefore using "insurance company property". Canada has a prime example of government funded healthcare. Prevention goes a long way. Regular checkups would prevent complications and result in more early detection, reducing expensive invasive surgeries leaving surgeons to work mainly on trauma and ER.

I could go on about flawed "pre-existing condition" laws but I'm sad I've devoted so much time to this response already.

This thread is a constant reminder of the moral & educational flaws that predominate American beliefs. Adamant posters in this thread are so "America, fuck yeah!" on both sides it's ridiculously sad you can't see how much you actually have in common with each other.

It doesn't take that much money to care about another human being. You don't need to have compassion, or actually even care for that matter, just give a shit and you'd get it.

    Do it!

Glenn Beck is offering a free 14 day trial of his new show if anyone is interested. I would encourage everyone to check it out.

Viking have you ever considered that maybe you are the one who has been brainwashed?

What can I say when you use words like Marxist to describe Obama. Or call Europeans a bunch of communists and fascists.

It's no accident that the Republican Party rolled out this free market/ Libertarian schtick around the time of Obama's election. They desperately needed to change the conversation away from Bush and his failures. And now lo and behold every right winger is a market fundamentalist protecting us from "socialism." Sorry but it is groupthink at its worst.

How about take some time to look up what words like socialist, communist and even "libertarian" actually mean instead of relying on Glenn Beck for your education. Did you know that libertarianism for instance was originally a left wing movement? Started by a communist? A lot of these terms don't mean what you think they do...

if u support free markets, you support the only system that supports liberty and equal rights. The more the governments interfere the more they generate hogwash to get peopel to bitch and moan and push agendas under guise of "equality" or other product slogans they liek to use. They simply trying to offer voters something for their votes, which they will take away from on group or another. And all things arent based on any principles. You can take the logic and apply in it another instance and people will say its completely wrong. Which begs the question why are people willingly ignoring simple logic through logical fallacies or ignorance to ignore the hypocrisies they support. And when presented they run. I understand its nice to have everything u want without a cost. Much liek a philosopher stone to turn lead into gold. But reality doesnt work that way. Time always corrects it.

Equal rights doesnt equal equality. No such thing as equality in economic sense. If history was to show the closest im guessing lenin would take that cake. And the saying we're equal in death comes to mind and the idea of Envy as a sin. Money doesnt equal health or happiness people really need to only concern themselves in selfish types of... well concerns. And selfish doesnt mean ok to be greedy. It means focus on what u got going and your happiness without comparisons.

And attack the rich is popular becuase they are fewer in number of votes, but what they lack in numbers they can defend in lobbyist dollars, or rather try to cheat the cheaters trying to cheat them. Thats not to say all lobby out of a ethical defense. And not to say when politicians push class warfare that sides dont get heated and sides go overboard. When politicians decide to tell people its right to tax more from the super rich for programs that supercede the ideology of a republic, and people cast their votes for such programs they loose the high moral highground when bitching against evil corps. Theyre both trying to get ahead in an unethical manner. And i think its wrong to support politicians using class warfare to push their careers. What good comes from it but turn classes into ravage beasts without principles trying anything and everything to elect their "leaders".

It really comes down to this. People who are agaisnt free market policies prefer larger government and central planning and will sacrifice the rights and liberties of others as long as its to their benefit. And to their benefit is key. All people are selfish. People are so quick to call something like being selfish or concerned with ones self interests as being evil. Its natural instinct. I.E. warren buffet talks the talk about charity and giving away money. Of course hes not giving away it all or any amount that would change his lifestyle now. And hes posturing to donate it all when hes dead and doesnt matter to him but will be a selfish attempt to get his name to last maybe another 100 years after hes gone. Peopel could say that his selfishness is evil in that hes not helping out family while pushing his selfish agenda to keep his name alive in tribute. I respect his right to his money and whatever he chooses to do with it. None of my concern.

Or people who prefer more liberty... and there are those who speak free markets only when it benefits them... and they operate on principles and logic and do so without contradiction. Much like Ron Paul. And that integrity is respectable. The principles are really what is good for the greater good.

But hey if u support a central plan. And equality, please dont say u also support equal rights/liberty. It just annoys people who get it. Say it simply like "hey i dont want a lot of individual responsibility, id rather people plan for me, offer me securities at costs to others besides me. i want my rights, but hey if i benefit from retarding others ill take it. I just dont really want to worry or think about this shit and i leave it in your hands. and ill be happy to vote along party lines that promote the packages that benefit me. But im going to bitch and moan if somehow i make too much money or am in a profession that acts as the sacrifical lamb. And ill blame the other team not mine even thought the philosophies are the same but differing on benefits to whom."

Ah now i feel much better.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney picked up Monday night where they left off in their last debate encounter, with the two GOP heavyweights engaging in a testy exchange over Social Security.

Mr. Romney tried to put Mr. Perry on the spot, after the three-term Texas governor refused to back off his repeated description of Social Security as a “Ponzi scheme.”

“The real question is, does Governor Perry continue to believe that Social Security should not be a federal program, that it’s unconstitutional, and it should be returned to the states? Or is he going to retreat from that view?” Mr. Romney said, repeating the question several times.

Mr. Perry said, “Obviously, we’re not going to take the program away.”
