It can certainly do a lot of good; I mean lets face it, no matter how much shit we do to the planet even in my lifetime, aside from nuclear holocaust, the planet will still be here for quite some time even if we kill ourselves off first. Global warming might be an issue, but it isn't really one you or I have to face in any serious way. Yet it IS terrible that we could knowingly fuck with our own environment and not give a shit when things go out of hand. So people propagandize it, capitalize on the less educated, thus improving society while keeping very distinct roles for the working class, the professional class, and the so-called intelligentsia.

HAHAHA
Scott Brown breaks with his party and votes with the Democrats, clearing jobs bill for passage. The comments from Republicans at the bottom of that page are priceless.

I am liking hearing the word "reconciliation" these days from congress.

I think they going to pass this healthcare thing before Obama's first term is up. Reid is starting to find his nutsack.
- Eh, I dunno. The $15 bil program won't do much, & he's made a lot of missteps, putting his re-election in question.luckyorphan

I thought they were all getting voted out anyway according to you cnaps. So why not pass the bill if that's the case?
One thing a lot of people seem to miss here is that the House and the Senate actually both already passed the health care reform bill. The House voted sometime in early December I believe, and the Senate bill passed at the end of the month.
The only issue is passing certain revisions to the bill so that the House accepts the Senate version. Those revisions would be the only thing needing to be passed through reconciliation, the rest is already a done deal.

But hey, maybe they can get a Republican to support it and just pass it normal. How about this Scott Brown guy? He seems to like to play for the other team.
- I bet ten bucks Brown runs for president in 2016.luckyorphan

An overwhelming majority of Americans don't want this healthcare bill, that's not saying HC needs some fixing, but this bill is a sucide mission for the dems! But hey, don't worry, so far you lost nj and the Ted Kennedy seat, I'm sure things will be fine...
- Prove that an overwhelming majority doesn't want it for the same reasons.luckyorphan

Anyone read either the president's health care proposal or even just analysis about it yet?
- Might be good if we all knew what we were talking about.luckyorphan
- I saw some analysis of it. I get lost in legalese trying to read actual proposals.DrBombay

Well let's be clear what people actually do support. People overwhelmingly want health care reform. And actually polls have shown again and again that people support a government run health insurance alternative (public option), which Obama appears to be reluctant to put into the current bill for whatever reason.
And actually polls have even shown people support full on single payer health care (i.e., government run health care), which the most liberal Dem Congresspeople have never even proposed doing.
What is now unpopular is the current health care bill, but, given the support for these more liberal policies, I think we can say that it's non unpopular because it's too liberal, it's probably unpopular either because it's too centrist/wishy washy - or because people just don't understand what it consists of.
On the second point, the pollster Nate Silver posted a run down of the various components of the current bill and how they poll. Turns out the individual components are mostly popular.
But at the end of the day, I think it would be a good idea for the Dems to pass the bill either way. Because you always get more good press for accomplishing things than doing nothing, and they will have plenty of time to talk about the bill and the positive things it does accomplish in terms of ending recisions, cost containment, etc.

Proof that a majority of Americans do not want Obamas/reid/pelosi Health care bill...A Republican is gov of NJ...thats huge.....but then you follow that up with a Republican in the teddy cutty sark kennedy seat and that's amazing! So what do you think the people of these two states are voting on....one year ago the dems were flying high, and in one year...what changed so much that its gotten so bad a teddys seat up there in mass. was lost to a nobody?? so if it isnt healthcare that is playing a giant role in these loses, then what is it? is it, that Obama spent a year blabbing on about HC and not about job creation?
- Do you know what a Filibuster is? How about Reconciliation?DrBombay
- Your boy in Mass voted for healthcare yesterday.DrBombay
- I mean the jobs bill.DrBombay

- YEP!********
- The jobs bill is a good bill, if it's gonna actually put people to work, and tax credits for hiring people on unemployment, not to shabby! But the healthcare debate is still a risky venture at this point for the dems. You can't argue that after what's happen over the past few months.********
