Wondering when Obama will begin building Nuke power plants and drilling offshore for oil... I'm waiting... Oh, my bad, it was just another LIE. Gotta stop believing this guy.

    • Already approved it in July as part of the clean energy bill. You need to get a clue.Mimio

Finally got a chance to catch the SOTU speech and it was excellent, actually I was surprised he was able to pull off a speech that good after the setbacks of the past couple weeks.

Of course Obama is good at delivering speeches but at this point a speech on its own would have rung pretty hollow, especially if it was nothing but a defense of health care reform and other past initiatives. Instead, he laid out a number of actual new policy ideas that were not left or right pandering. Cutting the capital gains tax for small business, moving to block the effects of the Supreme Court decision, ending DADT, ending Bush tax cuts for over 250k earners and starting to cut the budget deficit in a serious way. He also mentioned the nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia that is in final stages which I think would be a major accomplishment.

Many in the left-wing media (like the Huffington Post) are continuing to attack him for trying to be bipartisan. But it's a pretty ridiculous line of attack considering that is the only way to get things done (and was before the MA election since at least 2 or 3 of the "Democrat" votes in the Senate are more conservative than a couple of the Republicans). All their bitching and whining will do is lead to disillusionment which leads to the other party getting elected, at which point the situation will be reversed, with the Dems being obstructionist.

At the same time Fox and the right will try to paint him as a socialist or extreme left winger but it is more and more clear to me their efforts are just the result of taking advantage of some of the extreme measures that were needed to stabilize the economy. It's not clear to me they will be able to demagogue campaign finance reform in the same way.

Only question is whether Congress and the extreme partisans will finally figure it out and stop bickering over pointless bullshit like little girls.

AFA challenges CBS not to air gay make-out ad during Super Bowl

According to press reports, CBS is giving consideration to running an ad for a homosexual dating site during the Super Bowl, an ad that will feature two gay men brushing hands as they reach into a bowl of chips and then feverishly making out to the shock of a third man sitting nearby.
Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association (AFA), said, "It would be totally irresponsible for CBS to run this ad during a television program that is watched by more American families than any other show of the year. CBS should not put parents in the position of answering embarrassing and awkward questions from their children while they're just trying to enjoy a football game. CBS should quit dithering around and reject this ad out of hand."

American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with over 2.5 million online supporters.

    • Yeah, because God knows there's no families with gay members in them.Mimio
    • I like how people act like witnesses gay affection will make them gay.Mimio
    • ...because parents shouldn't have to do their fucking jobs by teaching their children about life, love and sexuality.bulletfactory

Floodgates will be open to foreign corporations to contribute money to US political campaigns.

That's not true. The court did not deal with that law. "Foreign companies are already prohibited from influencing American campaigns. The current legal prohibitions on foreign involvement in elections are quite specific, and prohibit a foreign national from directly or indirectly contributing to a candidate or party, or paying for a broadcast, cable or satellite communication which refers to a federal candidate in the period before an election ('electioneering communications'). Furthermore, FEC regulations already prohibit a foreign national from direct, control, or indirectly participating in the decision-making process of any corporation, labor union, or political committee in their election-related activities." So it's a flat-out and out lie, it's a scare tactic. The libs are all upset because the First Amendment was upheld. Freedom came out of its coma a little bit with that ruling by the US Supreme Court. The libs are all bent out of shape because free speech gets in the way of their plans.
