SumWurk, what do you feel is weak about the current administrations war disposition relative to the previous administrations? Your comment presumes that the actions taken by the Obama administration have been a set back to the war effort. Please explain if you don't mind.
- 1) Obama never discusses the wars that we're in. Would rather talk about himself (see recent Ohio speech).********
- 2) It took Obama 3 months to send in inadequate troop numbers despite his top general's recommendations.********
- 3) Obama refused to acknowledge the Fort Hood attack as a terrorist act********
- 4) 3) Obama refused to acknowledge the Christmas Day hijacker attack as a terrorist act********
- 5) Obama want to give terrorists miranda rights and wants to conduct their trials outside of Military tribunals.********
- 6) Obama hurried to shut down Gitmo (for purely political reasons) without a plan.********
- Shall I go on (... and on and on)? or should we debate these points first?********
- Man you are partisan SumWurk. I bet if a Republican ran things exactly the same way you would be fine with it.ukit
- Not so ukit. I'm not all that partisan either. I'm just not down with the status quo in D.C. anymore. Unfortunately, Obama is part of the problem, when I was hoping that he would be THE solution.********

According to NPR, “In 2003, a survey of female veterans found that 30 percent said they were raped in the military. A 2004 study of veterans who were seeking help for post-traumatic stress disorder found that 71 percent of the women said they were sexually assaulted or raped while serving. And a 1995 study of female veterans of the Gulf and earlier wars, found that 90 percent had been sexually harassed.”

M'kay...moving on.
Gotta say that this Op-Ed by Bob Herbert in the NY Times is one of the fairest, most clearly-written pieces I've read thus far about the president's troubles. Sadly, it rings all too true, and I have to think that it's a crit that cuts across lines.
Worth a read:
Obama's Credibility Gap

^ Not a bad column by Bob Herbert, but I have to say I'm getting a little bit fed up with liberals who criticize Obama for every non-liberal thing he does.
Is there something that is so wrong with saying he's not going to increase spending over the next few years from current levels? He's got half the country screaming at him for spending too much, and now that he wants to put a cap on spending, the other half starts whining about it as well.
America is getting close to having a dysfunctional government, and if you think Democrats are the only problem, you are in for a big surprise when the other side of the coin, Republicans, gets back in power someday. The media which eggs us to oppose anything that doesn't fit our narrow ideological interest is just as much to blame.
- One of the most logical things you have ever said. What the hell. The world most be coming to an end.********
- I look forward to reading a similar article about the failings of the GOP from you, Fred.luckyorphan

well put, ukit... I was thinking the same thing as I read through that article...
... I've been thinking - Obama does have by far the most difficult presidency to date - he was handed a pretty disoriented / angry nation...
... that being said - like ukit mentioned... the guy is going to be damned by one side regardless of what he does.
This country has been pretty evenly divided for the last 10 years... making it difficult for anything useful to get accomplished. I blame both sides - in tune w/Herbert's column too... make one side happy... the other throws a fit.
- The right is simply better at pushing the media to follow a message, these days.luckyorphan

Comments for SumWurk:
1) Never discusses the wars that we're in.
At what frequency should he be discussing the war? Everyday? We're bombarded with information from this war. Not sure how this affects the administrations disposition on the war on terror.
2) It took Obama 3 months to send in inadequate troop numbers despite his top general's recommendations.
In February of 2009 Obama sent 17,000 troops to Afghanistan, adding nearly 50% to the 36,000 troops that had been there prior to him taking office. In December of 09 after deliberating a change in strategy, he sent an additional 30,000 troops. In one year he has more than tripled the amount of troops.
3 months to reassess a failing war strategy and garnering support from other nations is hardly comparable to 7.5 years of neglect.
3 & 4) Obama refused to acknowledge the Fort Hood attack as a terrorist act... refused to acknowledge the Christmas Day hijacker attack as a terrorist act
This administration has acknowledged both of these attacks where terrorism. Just my opinion but by immediately declaring that they were acts of terror would not have helped the situation. Declaring act of terrorism would only serve to frighten the general public. Not sure what declaring terrorism to the nation solves... If anything this has only shown the serious holes in our defensed which should have been previously addressed. What the hell was the point in creating one of the largest government programs to guard against acts of terror, if the very acts of terror that started all this could still be pulled off?
5) Obama wants to give terrorists miranda rights and wants to conduct their trials outside of Military tribunals.
Yes, much like the previous administration (ie. Richard Reid, shoe bomber). Terror trials conducted within our country have successfully lead to prosecutions. Guantanamo has lead to no prosecutions and are leaving enemy combatant in legal limbo.
6) Obama hurried to shut down Gitmo (for purely political reasons) without a plan.
True, Obama may have underestimated his ability to shut down Guantanamo. There are serious legal issues involved with detaining these people. Your opinion may differ but the greatest democracy and largest military force in history should not compromise it's laws in order to fight a loosely organized but extremely radical group of militants. This has only served to recruit more people to terrorism.
SumWurk, I know you won't agree with me but of anything this president has done that I am 100% in favor off is his refocused effort on the war against Al Qaeda.

TO: IRNlun6, if I were President...
— I would update the American people about the wars and our military/action all of the time. Maybe even every day.
— When my top commander asks for more troops, he gets them immediately, along with a stern reminder to the enemy that our warriors are coming, without haste and with bad intentions.
— I would have handled Fort Hood and the Panty Bomber MUCH differently. Enough said. Obama failed at many levels here.
— I would never give an enemy combatant the same rights as a US Citizen. Rather, they would always face trial in a military setting.
— I would never have promised to shut down Gitmo without an advance plan. In fact, I would not promise the American people a single thing that I could not earnestly deliver. Thanks for your indulgence and consideration.
- So basically you want a Republican president who gets on TV and says the word terrorism a lotukit
- What difference would it make? Bush was exactly how you describe and it didn't keep us safe, we got hit three times including the worst attack in historyukit
- including the worst attack in history.ukit
- Thanks to Bill Clinton's policies.********
- Bill Clintons policies had nothing to do with the constant fear the Bush admin hoisted on the American public.mathinc

if i were President...
I would abolish the IRS and implement a VAT Tax and or sales tax
I would pull out military personnel out of bases worldwide unless the hosting country 'pays for protection'
I would abolish all laws/frivolous laws that violate the constitution
I would implement term limits for senators and congressman
I would institute similar system to 'jury notification' for all citizens to work in public office for 1 to 2 years.
I would legalize soft drugs and crack down on chemical drugs
I would confiscate the fortunes of war criminals and corrupt politicians
I would prosecute any govt official who violated the law
I would prosecute any corp official who violated the law

I would abolish education in it's traditional form and impliment a real world educational system through job programs, history, technology and other needed services.
I would abolish all product and fast food advertising
I would deport all illegal immigrants unless they agreed to pay a fine and go through courses on American history and language

People really need to start questioning the numbers and facts they here on 'tv' or newspapers. Especially if they're still a pro OBAMA supporter. I am not sure why the lies haven't turned you off already but...
Starting thinking.
I will give you an example. Someone started a blog about 11 species that have been photographed which are now extinct.
So all the wannabe tree huggers and enviromentals (think about that word.) whined and cried and said humans where bad, guns were bad, everything was bad. We need to be one with nature like Avatar, we need to connect with nature and ride horses, some even suggested painting yourself 'blue' to get in character. But the real point was the 11 extinct species
So 11 Extincts species?
They're over 1.4 Million species in the world! And we discover more everyday!
Think about that percentage!
That means less then 1% have become extinct since humans started taking photographs of species above and below water!
The same thing goes for politics! Start using your nogans! How did I come to this conclusion? I researched it! I questioned the numbers! I just didn't believe what was told to me.
I did not save or create millions of jobs.
