If Obama passes this health care bill, and it looks like he will, he already will have accomplished more than the past two Presidents (domestically at least)
- it's not an accomplishment if it's a step in the wrong directionPonyBoy
- Remember Bush's Social Security reform? What a disaster that would have been.Mimio
- It's always an accomplishment for someone, right?;)ukit
- What we have now isn't working at all.Mimio

Yes, the Senate bill is quite an achievement.
Secures large profits for big pharma by keeping lowercost generics out of the country (thought we were trying to reduce costs here?). Unconstitutionally force people to have health insurance (big win for insurance companies, they're finally in the same boat as gov, indentured customers). Quite an achievement there. Increased payroll taxes for small businesses, which will get passed on to their employees. I'm sure glad that government is working for the little guy now.
- unconstitutional? IS you car and home insurance unconstitutional?Mimio
- great point.DrBombay
- those insurances are there to protect others... but im not surprised you didnt know that********
- No Deathboy, Insurance is there to protect the policy holder from liability and the related costs.Mimio

if they do it, it must be swell. right ukit?

The short-sightedness of some people is incredible. The first healthcare legislation isn't going to be all jesus juice and skittles but it has to start somewhere. I hope many of them die of a curable disease because they can't afford treatment. I think that may be the only thing that would open their eyes and try to have empathy for the less fortunate.
Is this bill perfect? No. Does it give a lot to the Insurance companies? Yes. But it is the most sweeping reform of this clusterfuck of an extortion industry that has ever happened before.

fucking ignorant hicks...
CALLER: Yeah doctor. Our small tea bag group here in Whitecross (sp), we got our vigil together and took Dr. Coburn’s instructions and prayed real hard that Sen. Byrd would either die or couldn’t show up at the vote the other night.
How hard did you pray because I see one of our members was missing this morning. Did it backfire on us? One of our members died? How hard did you pray senator? Did you pray hard enough?

You know how when you sign up for insurance right now they always ask if you have a "pre existing" condition, which will not be covered?
As soon as Obama signs the bill, that policy ends. Do you understand how huge that is for people who have cancer or other life threatening disease who couldn't get insurance? Or do you just want to bitch and whine because you don't like Democrats?
- You CLEARLY don't understand the insurance industry, do you. Okay, so you get your way now. Be prepared to pay through your nose.********
- to pay through your news. But wait! None of this begins for four years!!!********
- * Nose********
- yea its huge becuase it means they get freebies. do u understand the cost? do you know who decides pre existing? why should i pay for that? what does it do for me?********
- why should i pay? i dont care. what does it do for me? nothing. just makes me think of a homeless man with a gun********
- Why is it a freebie? Any change in government regulation is a freebie? Should we never change our laws?ukit
- As far as cost, the OMB report says it will be deficit neutral. Are you telling me Sumwurk and deathboy know something they don't? LOLukit
- don't? LOLukit

DrBombay, you are so far removed from normal thinking, I can only feel very, very sorry for you. Whatever whoever did wrong to you in life must have been so terrible. I am sorry that you have to live everyday with such ager and loathing. I hope you will find real peace someday.

I think it is great that our country is more interested in killing the brown people and not conceding a war that has no real goal or measurement of success, than letting our own country men, women and children die of curable illnesses under the guise of leveraging the costs on our children. fuck you.

Bush wasted money on so much shit we didn't need. His prescription drug program cost as much as the stimulus. Tax cuts for the rich meaning it will be almost impossible to close the deficit...and massive spending in Iraq where we lost huge amounts due to Halliburton and other companies overcharging for their services.
So now the Democrats put a health care bill together that is DEFICIT NEUTRAL...and you guys are bitching about it like it's the worst thing ever. Where were you the last 8 years when the Republicans were spending us into oblivion? And what makes you think they would be any different now?
- ALWAYS blaming Bush. When will you ever stop? It gets so old.********
- he's not really blaming BUsh so much as he's asking why your criticism is lop-sidedlocustsloth
- Wake up, the same Republican Congressional leaders we had during Bush will be voted back in if you vote Republicanukit
- So their record on spending (bad) is very relevant..and yes it's worse than the Democratsukit
- Do you care about spending SumWurk?ukit
- You have some nerve to ask me about spending. Better you ask your President this question.********
- I think it's funny how some of you think that criticism of what's happening now means that you supported what happened then.mathinc

Ukit, the democrats are as responsible for this recession as the Republicans, perhaps even more so. But now it's the Dems making it MUCH worse.
Either way, they're Obama's policies and his economy now, so please quit blaming Bush. It would be like blaming your Mother and Father because they produced such a cock. You see, it's just not right.

One of my parents passed away recently...so I'd appreciate you leaving my family out of this (which a mature person would do anyway). BTW, the fact is, Obama inherited a deficit. You can't fucking blame him for the government being broke. That would be an ignorant reading of the situation (although I'm not surprised if that's what you end up posting).
What has he done so far? The stimulus. That's it. It cost, give or take, 780 billion. We'll round it up and call it a trillion.
That leaves us with over 11 trillion in debt, the vast majority of it created by two "conservative" presidents - George Bush II and Ronald Reagan.
Is it not relevant then to examine their policies? Like massive tax cuts without spending cuts? Shoveling yet more money into the arms of military contractors to build weapons we'll never use? Zero investment in public infrastructure?
It's not an obsession with Bush personally, I couldn't give a crap about him. What I'm asking is whether conservative policies produce surplus, or debt.
Ask yourself this, what policy have the Republicans proposed that is different from the past 30 years? I'd love for one of you to answer that, but you can't.

I'm not THAT familiar with the health bill, mostly because it's in constant flux. So if anyone could do me a favor and explain how it fixes the problem with healthcare right now.. namely, cost. That's the real issue here. We need to stem the costs of healthcare. My grandma spent 10 days in a hospital with no surgery and the cost was 250,000. So where does this bill reduce costs cause as far as I can tell it's going to raise costs. I hope I'm wrong but please if someone could explain the goal of this bill. Sure killing 'pre-existing condition' is a good thing, but couldn't they just do that as it's own thing? I'm not feigning ignorance here, but if the issue is the cost of healthcare then how does this bill fix it?
