It is funny that as soon as deathboy's possible alter ego topic occurs. He disappears for a while.

Revealed: millions spent by lobby firms fighting Obama health reforms
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/…Why does the free market need to tilt the table so much?
- ********0
You would think that Obama, and his Chicago cronies (including sweet Michelle, dearest Oprah, and the rest of them)... yes, the very cronies that stood to benefit by untold 10s' if not 100s' of millions of dollars, could have secured the Olympics for their "favorite city". After all, Obama put the war that we're in, on the back-burner, while he took the time to run his dog and pony show for the Olympic Committee.
Well, to that I simply say, congratulations to Rio De Janeiro! Obama, you can go suck on an egg, because once again, you FAILED.
P.s.: Chicago was the first of the five cities in consideration to be OUSTED.

@AngryMob
That's surely one way to look at it, yes. I think most people here would agree it was a mistake to lend his personal attention to this, especially with everything going on. Cronies or no cronies, Oprah or not, I think he's made a little blunder associating himself with it so directly. It's actually one of his first political blunders I can earmark that has multiple sides of the political spectrum criticizing him for.
The question now remains and will be told as time goes by, how will this effect his image both here and abroad? Laying all other political arguments aside, whether you like or dislike his policies, does something like this haunt him?
- zman0
Obama's image is already faultering abroad, his foreign policy is basically more of the same old stuff the Bush admin was pushing just with different rhetoric and he's being pinpointed for it.
- ukit0
zman - you are right to some extent...there is definitely no radical revolution going on at the State/ Defense Dept. I think that's what's funny about "the right" in the U.S. pretending Obama is far left, to the extent that the world cares about what the U.S. does, clearly they would prefer a far more leftist policy than they would ever get from even a Dem administration.
But when you look at the totality of it, there does seem to be a strategic shift happening. As an example, scrapping the missile defense in Poland, and seeing Russia back down as well is a significant development. If there can be a breakthrough with Iran that resolves the nuclear standoff that would be huge as well.
- but at what cost? was it really that necessary to have Russia on board?zenmasterfoo
- there's no evidence Iran has a nuclear program, this is the same game they played with Iraq and look where that wentzman
- I don't think a 'breakthrough' will happen nor will a real conflict. I think this cold war type of thing will just be extendedzman
- ... played out for a while longer.zman
- I'm not saying it's flowers and hippie music, but there is clearly a shift in strategyukit
- Iran certainly has a nuclear program. It's Israel that cares.TheBlueOne

This news site based out of Hong Kong has some interesting editorials BTW...it's def interesting to get the non American view on things and see the stories the US media doesn't cover.

"The President went, like every other head of state, to try to get the Olympics for his country. It was awarded to Rio. Nothing else happened, and anyone who states otherwise is simply sniffing glue. And no matter what happened, the Republicans would be claiming that it is bad for Obama."
Yup.
Meanwhile, North Korea announces it is no longer communist.
http://www.reuters.com/article/w…
Doesn't really change anything, thus giving truth to the lie that it was anything close to communist in the first place.
- ********0
Seriously folks... If the Texas was bidding for the Olympics and it was the Bush Admin. you know damn well Georgie would buy each member of the IOC a ten gallon hat, a bull and a barrel of oil.

I remember when Bush didn't get the nod for NYC for the 2012 Olympics. I remember everyone talking that up because of 9/11 and it'd be the right thing to do, etc. But it didn't happen That sure stained his presidency, huh? I remember all the articles about how it showed he put the prestige of the presidency on the line and failed, and all that stuff. Yup.

Hey to you health care heroes out there, can u please explain the reasons why our public health care has failed? And since u like to point at other kids toys, can u explain why other countries public options, lets say france for focus, have yet been able to control increasing costs. and what will happen with continual deficits? would they remove the programs to cut the losses? would the people who have been given a santa's bag of endless health care let them cut it? Do you only focus on the fact they have it and ignore any problems related to it? I'm really still trying to understand how so many people ignore the fact that we have a smaller public option model that is failing miserably and are not even attempting to try to see why that is, and how.. hell even look at any effects the current programs have had increasing costs.
And to blueballs here is a link you should read. Doubt you will since its more then a soundbyte that doesn't support your beliefs.
http://www.mackinac.org/article.…It also give a general sense of what im talking about with the gov hand of god stuff. I had thought of this great way to illustrate it for you, but then i thought about the time involved, the typo corrections and such and decided id find a quicker solution. Likely would have filled a couple pages anyways. And even if i spent my time on it, it would be like tossing pearls before swine. So its not perfect, but if you are of mind, i think u could get the jist and if you're interested i'd be happy to explain further. But like i said i have no expectations. And im not insulting when i say this, id rather state matter-of-factly my current view that you and your ilk are like trying to drag a dead horse to water and kick it until it drinks. Which is an impossibility, but my boots are still holding up so ill keep trying.
- "blueballs"? e tu deathboy?TheBlueOne
- Your "enlightening" link is nothing other than more propaganda for Milton Freidman economics...TheBlueOne
- ..which just failed spectacularly. But you just keep chugging that koolaid.TheBlueOne

- anyways the questions are clear as crystal. so please if u can answer them if cant or refuse to make playground insults********
- even though their meant for blue, but like i said i have no expectations, after all if u could answer them, then u wouldnt hold your current views********

i love clicking through 8 or more side-notes just so i can make sure i finish reading Deathboy's well thought-out arguments. There's a fine breeze blowing in this thread.

"But like i said i have no expectations. And im not insulting when i say this, id rather state matter-of-factly my current view that you and your ilk are like trying to drag a dead horse to water and kick it until it drinks."
Incredible. Here we sit at the end of 30+ years of massive government deregulation of industries, ESPECIALLY the banking and finance industry, that resulted in the 2nd worst financial crash in the United States. The Biggest Crash happened in pursuing the exact same policies seventy odd years ago.
Yet YOU are the one dragging the "We need to get government off our backs and out of the markets" dead horse meme
Further, your side completely overlooks WHERE in the market profits are coming from, considering them all to be equal as long as they are, in fact profits. When in actual fact capital return on actual production of goods and services has been in a steady decline since the 1970's, as apparently demonstrated by the lack of real wages in that time, and has been artificially inflated through various financial "vehicles". The interests and class behind creating these "profits from nothing" would like to keep their position and source of wealth and don't give two fucks about the rest of society.
Whereas in, say China, where there is significant investment capital return on infrastructure, manufacturing, etc. here in the States it's been shot to hell. Investment return focuses on finanical chiccanery and not actual physical growth. Why loan money to a factory to upgrade their facilities with a 2% return on investment over ten years when they can create financial "instruments" selling nothing and get back scaled amounts far greater? And fuck it, we can buy the company that owns the factory, break down it's assets, dump it's retirement plan into some mortgaged back securities (fuck, who cares if it blows up as long as we get our % off the top, right?)
Yet you seem to think allowing these activities to continue by keeping government out of "free markets" is the ticket?
Someone's dragging and kicking a dead horse to some pretty fetid water, and it ain't me.
And stop bitching and moaning like it's a fucking challenge for you to write in coherent sentences. It's not hard, retard.
- And for the record Obama hasn't done anything in this matter to make me happy.TheBlueOne

^ The free market system, and specifically, the USA's free market system, is the greatest financial/economic system/engine in the world, BAR NONE. Can't we all agree on that?
So, our economy "sputtered". You know, that's going to happen once in awhile. Especially when GOVERNMENT POLITICIANS ARE OUT OF FUCKING CONTROL, LYING, THIEVES!!!
Now, no one complained when times were good, or should I say, "when the cow was fat", so, SHUT THE FUCK UP NOW.
And China had better reinvest their capital into infrastructure, because China is a fucking SHIT-PIT. Largely 3rd fucking world. Can't hold a fucking candle to the good ol' USA.
Anyhow, as I said, FREE MARKETS, FREE MARKETS, FREE MARKETS, and FUCK the crooked politicos who got us here.
- I complained when the "cow was fat" saying it wasn't sustainable.TheBlueOne
- Lots of others as well, too bad your ears were shut. But do wave your teabag sign aroundTheBlueOne
- Okay, I'll give you that. But free markets are what built this great country, politicians are destroying it.********
