"harsh interrogation techniques"
i.e. torture.
This has been a big issue for the last few years... I was disappointed Obama was suggesting people wouldn't be held to account... maybe it will turn out differently.

What exactly are the 'harsh interrogation techniques'? I thought that waterboarding was the worst we did. I'm kind of ignorant on this subject.
- most conservative neocon's are ignorant on most subjects********
- You must be way the fuck out there on the left if you think I'm a neocon.tommyo
- Or is that just the new buzz word you learned today? Giving it a tryout of sorts?tommyo
- jamal, that in itself is the ignorant statement of the week.sputnik2

IF the Administration decides to "backwards prosecute" Bush, et all, they also need to prosecute EVERY MOTHER FUCKER whom also did wrong.
Yes, ALL politicians. ALL past presidents, and YES, EVEN Obama himself, should be investigated.
Fair enough? Thought so.
- Well, yes, let's be sure not to prosecute anyone who did anything wrong before today.TheBlueOne
- Rapists, murderers..you did your crime last week? You're free.TheBlueOne

^^^ ALL of Congress had COMPLETE knowledge of the interrogation programs being utilized.
You little pussies act like Bush and Cheney are the only one's who knew what was going on.
- haha I tend to agree with you here. Dunno why people delude themselves into thinking Congress has no involvement, tommyo
- and then they seem to forget that it's congress who could put a stop to just about any of this.tommyo
- I guess I missed the part where Congressman Obama stood up and gave a brilliant speech about how this needs to end!!!tommyo

From what I have heard and read, although again, ignorant on this subject, is that the enhanced torture methods rarely (if ever) produced anything useful. However reading through the list of techniques, nothing really jumps out at me as 'torture.' Waterboarding seems like the worst but at the same time, from what I've read, it's just a very unpleasant experience. I would think that these guys already know the chances of them dying at the hands of the US are extremely remote. The US knows they can't allow any of the detainees to die or it would be a PR nightmare.
I really just wish they would do a better job of vetting these detainees to make sure each and every one of the people they're putting through this has a high chance of having information. Besides, wouldn't it stand to reason that any detainee kept there for longer than a few months would have expired information anyways?
I really hate that our country continues to trade their standards of 'morality' for some sense of security. With the same breath though, there are some people who are dangerous to us and those people need detainment. The warrant less wiretaps piss me off to no end though.

Holding someone down and doing something unpleasant to them until they submit to do what you want them to do, that is the very definition of torture, isn't it?
- God damn, you are SOOO fucking smart, DrB!!! Whoa!!! I hope my kids grow up to be like you someday.********

Rick, I don't understand what you think should be done to someone who, let's assume, HAS information about people who want to see harm done to Americans. It's a real world out there, and as much as some of you really far left liberals go, there are individuals that do want to cause harm. I abhor this constant fear bs that Bush invented, but it doesn't mean that there is no threat.
So what would you do if you had your own detainee and you knew he had information about doing harm? Serve him day old scones and burnt coffee for breakfast? Or is that going too far?
- DrBombay0
Far left? Give me a fucking break.
If you are going to torture people, call it torture. Don't try to find some sort of loophole in the language. If you hold a guy down and make him feel like he is drowning, that is torture. Admit it.
- Well I guess that depends on your definition. I think there is room for both 'interrogation' and 'torture' in our moral guidelinestommyo
- Or by your standard, going to the dentist is getting pretty damn close to torture. Parents putting their kid in the corner ...tommyo
- This is pointless.DrBombay
- You are willing to be dishonest to hold your position, have fun.DrBombay
- You never answered my question Rick. What would you do then. Let's inject some of your solution into the situation.tommyo
- I'm not lying, and as I mentioned, I'm pretty open to be swayed. I did mention I was ignorant on the subject. Sway me.tommyo
- For the record, you assumed I was against it. It's torture. Admit it.DrBombay
- Honestly man, yeah let's go back to 'this is pointless' cause I think you're right about that.tommyo
- I think waterboarding sounds like something that would scare the crap out of me, but, welcome to the world of being atommyo
- cocksucker terrorist (the innocent detainees withstanding). If I get a job with sanitation, I'm going to sift throughtommyo
- shit filled water in my boots. They, the guilty ones, know what they got themselves into no?tommyo
- I can't believe you won't admit that it is torture...DrBombay
- I really don't know enough about it. Again, what's your ideal interrogation technique.tommyo
- You always bang on me for not having a solution to my gripes. I honestly would like to hear yours.tommyo
- I am quite sure the CIA has been torturing people since its inception.DrBombay
- Can you just answer the question so I can get to work?tommyo
- Fuck it. Have a good one man, truly.tommyo
- You want me to give you an alternative to torturing people? Haha, how can I do that, Tommy?DrBombay
- Yeah that's what I asked you for you dunce. Do you need it in all caps? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAD TO GET INFO OUTtommyo
- OF A DETAINED PERSON WHO YOU KNEW HAD INFORMATION ABOUT ATTACKING AMERICANS?tommyo
- ffs man, you're a frustrating person to deal with. The 'point' just seems too far out of your grasp 99% of the time.tommyo
- It's like if I asked you, 'What's your favorite kind of muffin?' and you respond with 'Muffins are good!' *bangs head on walltommyo
- You just want me to agree with torture.DrBombay
- ********0
^ If DrBombay would threaten detainees with a "BLOW JOB", they would certainly give up all information, post haste.
Another effective tactic would be for DrB to suggest that he and the detainee will "Touch Penises" if confessions aren't forthcoming, and in a timely manner.
- Are you really in your 40's?DrBombay
- that would be 42, young-buck.********

tommyo: A CIA spokesman yesterday said that the information gained from waterboarding Al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammad led to the discovery f another 9/11 styled attempt on Los Angeles.

Waterboarding is considered torture internationally and if we are using it, there is no reason why other countries wouldn't have every right to use it on our soldiers.
FYI, we executed Japanese officials after WW2 for using waterboarding on Americans.

What the hell is CNS News by the way?
- DrBombay0
History
The Cybercast News Service was launched on June 16, 1998 as a news source for individuals, news organizations and broadcasters who put a higher premium on balance than spin and seek news that’s ignored or under-reported as a result of media bias by omission.
Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of CNSNews.com, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets – bias by commission and bias by omission – that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes "news."

Has anyone seen these Dick Cheney interviews on Fox this week? I've only read about them, but good God that imbecile has some nerve to be afraid of Obama's "devastating economic policies" when Bush and Cheney just destroyed everything in one big eight year swoop.

Rick,
I'm going to ask this one more time, since in our little note thread you don't seem to get what I'm asking. So, calmly, inquisitively, honestly, I'm asking you a very very simple question and I hope you can see it for what it is and stop wasting my god damn time. If anyone else wants to jump in and answer this go for it, Rick seems lost.
Scenario:
Detainee has information about an attack on Americans. What is an okay method to get the information out of him? Lives of innocent people are on the line.Assumptions:
- The guy has information and you know it.
- He's a known terrorist.Note
- I am not asking you to okay a form of torture. All I'm asking is, what would you do? What's an okay form of interrogation for you? This is simply a straightforward question and I'd love to know your straightforward opinion. Sincerely.
- DrBombay0
Tommy , your assumption is that the CNS article above is reliable. I say it isn't.
