GetRefresh Report: Sacramento Tea Party
Well, it was a thrill to attend the Sacramento tea party. I believe some 3000-5000 people attended. I'll watch the evening news to get the actual count. The event was 100% respectful and civil. No shouting. Very peaceful. I witnessed no "opposition" protests, or related people of any kind. Folks from all walks of life attended, from the rich, to the ass to the curb poor. Young and old, black, white, latino, native american (oops, I'm starting to sound like Obama).State Senators, members of Congress, and other distinguished guests spoke from a large stage, right in front of the State Capitol Building (I wonder if Arnold was in"?). Yes, Cavuto was there. TONS of media, bloggers, photogs, videogs— Security was impressive and quite thick. It was quite a scene. Lots of red, white and blue, everywhere you looked. "Don't Tread On Me" flags everywhere. Cheering, chanting, "USA", etc. All in all, many of you, despite your political orientation, as "Americans" may have likely appreciated the day. I did.

So this Texas secede thing...not surprised at all. I spent a few years in Dallas when I was a kid, and damn, there is not another state that spends as much time indoctrinating its populace about how great it is. I don't think they would even let you pass to the next grade unless you could spell "Sesquicentennial" from memory.

Here is a story about the Tea Party in Syracuse NY yesterday from the local news. One of the organizers of the event was one Mrs. Wilder.

"After a lifetime of working, paying taxes and raising three children on her own, Wilder is struggling. She said she retired on disability from M&T Bank three years ago after undergoing knee replacement and back surgeries. She lives on her Social Security and disability benefits. Last year, she petitioned the bankruptcy court for protection from creditors.
She said she did not have to pay federal income taxes last year because her income was too low."
Her main complaint?
"I don't want to see this country turn into a welfare, nanny state, where we stand in line for groceries, and we're in welfare lines, and in socialized medicine lines," Wilder said."

Then how about you agree to stop receiving your social security, your disability (we'll give you a nice repayment plan so you can make good all your mooching on from the government, Mrs. Wilder. Oh, and we'll just overturn any verdict in your bankruptcy case, because in bankruptcy your estate becomes a ward of the state to protect you from creditors, and well, we certainly don't want to "nanny" you if it so offends your sensibilities.
But we'll be cool..you just pay all those socialized payments back and let you deal with your debts without the protection of the State and well, fuck it, don't even worry about paying your taxes. Godspeed and good luck, Mrs. Wilder.

Over shouts of, "You're not a reporter," Roesgen quickly wrapped up an interview with an attendee, then said, "I think you get the general tenor of this. It's anti-government, anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network Fox."
