Hey! It's Joe the Plumbe...oh no..wait it's Joe the Journali..oh no.. Oh I see,it's Joe the Economist now...
"Politico reports that House GOP congressional aides decided to invite Wurzelbacher to a meeting on the stimulus in hopes that it will attract some media attention:
Wurzelbacher, who became a household name during the presidential election, will be focusing his talk on the proposed stimulus package. He’s apparently not a fan of the economic rescue package, according to members of the group.
If nothing else, GOP aides are using the appearance to get staffers to attend the 9 a.m meeting.
“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!” Kimberly Wallner, an aide to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, wrote in a message to her e-mail list this afternoon.
Steve Benen comments, “This is what it’s come to for Republican staffers in Congress. In the midst of an economic crisis, and after balking at a stimulus package, the GOP is turning to an unlicensed plumber/campaign prop to discuss legislative strategy on economic policy."

IBM wtf:
http://www.informationweek.com/n…
"Under a program called Project Match, IBM will help workers laid off from domestic sites obtain travel and visa assistance for countries in which Big Blue has openings. Mostly that's developing markets like India, China, and Brazil.
"IBM has established Project Match to help you locate potential job opportunities in growth markets where your skills are in demand," IBM says in an internal notice on the initiative. "Should you accept a position in one of these countries, IBM offers financial assistance to offset moving costs, provides immigration support, such as visa assistance, and other support to help ease the transition of an international move."
The document states that the program is limited to "satisfactory performers who have been notified of separation from IBM U.S. or Canada and are willing to work on local terms and conditions." The latter indicates that workers will be paid according to prevailing norms in the countries to which they relocate. In many cases, that could be substantially less than what they earned in North America."
Oh..so you want to move educated and experienced American workers to another country so you can pay them the local shitty wages...fuck you corporate america. And if you're offered one of these jobs and you decline, are you then ineligible to collect unemployment compensation?
- i wonder if the people who are being offered jobs are actually from india and china, etc. that have been working in america

Or you mean: Oh...so you want to move similarly educated and experienced American workers to another country so you can pay them the same wages as equally trained local workers...fuck you corporate america. ?
What, you think Bob should be paid like royalty (American wages in contrast with local living costs) and work next to Gabor? That sounds nice. 'Hey Gabor, why don't you and Gabi come over to the house this weekend, go swimming and let me show you my buckets of cash...you know, make you feel completely inferior.' If Bob is going to live there then why should he make the same amount of money there than he is here? I mean, the guy was getting fired, along with umpteen how many other people, to save...money. It costs less to live there. What's the issue? Kinda sounds like a win / win if you're the type of guy who likes working with IBM and doesn't want to brave the current job market. You'd rather A. They jeopardize the entire business just to keep everyone they have, then possibly losing the jobs of everyone eventually? B. Don't offer that any of their employees move, hire cheaper labor locally...so as to not offend the worker or TBO. C. Don't offer that any of their now ex-employees have an option other than facing the job market?
Not so sure why you're angry about this ... shit happens, economy's tank for a while, companies have to do what they have to do to keep the ship afloat and keep as much of their workforce as they can. At the very least it sounds like they're trying to do something half way respectable.
- TheBIueOne0
So they can take a guy they currently pay $70,000 a year or whatever, fire him ,pay a few grand to fly him to India and pay him $15,000 or whatever from that point on for the same exact work and you think that's just "the free market at work"....you're shitting me right...
- tommyo0
Ohhhhh I see...you think it's all a ploy.
Well then how bout the fact that they can pay english speaking skilled workers to do the exact same job and just fucking fire the guy? They don't need to even offer this sort of thing. Did you think this through? Or is IBM and the rest just faking that their failing right now?

I thought it through, thank you. The company gets an experienced american worker at piss ant rate.
- tommyo0
So then...you'd say that you'd pick one of these two options if you were IBM?
B. Don't offer that any of their employees move, hire cheaper labor locally...so as to not offend the worker or TBO.
C. Don't offer that any of their now ex-employees have an option other than facing the job market?
Or are you saying that no company should ever lay off anyone for any economical reason? Or are you just saying that 'corporate America suxors!' I'm not quite sure what you think they should do if you were in their situation.
- i'm saying ibm is fucking it's workersTheBIueOne
- I know that's what you're saying. The difference between our arguments are that you think it's corp greed, I don't.tommyo
- Gov and banking fucked up the economy .. how many computers you think IBM is planning on selling this year?tommyo
- All that equals job loss. I for one think it's a nice gesture on their part. I'd think about taking them up on it if I were in the position.tommyo
- Why'd you move this over to the side box? Fucking pussy. :Otommyo
- DrBombay0
I would move to india in a heartbeat, but not for 15 grand, I would have to be ablle to send money back home.
- DrBombay0
But you know, a return plane ticket from Mumbai to America isn't exactly 200 bucks or anything, so the cost of living really isn't equal to those wages.
- ukit0
Hmmm, I'm starting to see the plan here, companies unable to revive jobs market, government unable to pay benefits, so they simply ship us over to the 3rd world where we work for $5/ hour.
- robco0
mmm... my brother in-law works for IBM. it would be cool if i could go visit them in india, i guess i'd see them about as often as i do now.
