after two degrees in the wrong stuff, i want to learn design without school. any ideas?
- airey0
find someone who'll let you sit in their studio and learn while doing. plus, by microsoft office and as many clip-art cd's as yoiu can afford. you'll be there in no time.

also, what degrees did you get?
- ukit0
go for it. you couldn't pick a better field in terms of not needing a degree to learn what you need to know and get ahead.

...and yes, what are your two degrees?

depends on the kind of design you want to do.

as long as it isn't math...

Books and many a late night will serve you well.

what kind of jobs you all have?

what i mean is .. are you interested in information architecture, navigation and user experience, making things pretty with basic forms (color, line, texture, shape, etc), creating visual ideas (logos, posters), editorial design, working on campaigns, 3d, 2d, print, ads, type design?
what? what made you decide this would be more fun than math? what inspired you?
- branding, multi-page layout, interactive, motion .. Jesus there's a lot to potentially know._salisae_

i'm a photographer -- photojournalist -- but there aren't jobs in journalism anymore. the idea of sitting behind a desk makes me kind of sick. information, basic forms, 2d and print, ads, i don't give a flip as long as i can be creative.

had no idea photojournalism had dried up as such. huh.
design and desks are certainly a matched pair for life (i hate this aspect as well. i'd love to be up interacting more often.) if i were you i'd look into studying photography for ads or magazines. jevad knows a lot about this.

Don't do it!

Did you graduate from UNC by any chance?
- robs0
ha, no -- if i went to unc i probably wouldn't have this problem. nc state.

I saw you were from Raleigh and you said photojournalism so thought you might have (I graduated from there).
