ncsu doesn't have a journalism department, hence my math and econ -- what do you do now?

freelance interactive designer. at the time UNC barely had a new media program but I was lucky enough to go there when they started teaching actionscript (Flash), so I got a full year's training in that.

what's funny is that i remember sitting in that class - back in 2002 or so - and accidently landing on Newstoday for the first time

tonight's my first time here -- not sure how i got here, but i like it alright. let's see if i can make better contributions in the future.

"the idea of sitting behind a desk makes me kind of sick."
that rules out plenty of jobs, right there. lol.
- robs0
i guess for me current background that means SAS programming and math equations

i assume you good with text. how about copy-writing? they get payed pretty good.

account-services?
- robs0
i spose i prefer something more visual, but i can do text. i'd love to get into print somehow.

WTF are you guys sayin? Design all the way!
- robs0
no joke -- someone just send me a book or something...

I've already donated all of my beginning design books but start with a basic design principles book please. Too many people skip that.

dude design is sitting behind a desk all fucking day.
I feel you, that fucked up feeling of being behind a desk or walking in to this office with motherfuckers that have no idea how shitty their mechanical life is...
I think a lot of jobs are like that. But like design there is loop holes around it. You already have 2 degrees, maybe you should look for different ways to use your born given talent.
Personally I hate the desk idea to and im in the same pickle as you.

you don't have to sit behind the desk all day... you can get up and walk around...
but srsly.. what about setting up an online magazine, say covering design events, where you get to do design, publishing, and get to travel a lot and do photography?
Thats what I did: http://www.cardesignnews.com
of course doing online content is lots of hard work and not much money...

The sad thing is, in about 50 years
you might start doin' some thinkin' on
your own and by then you'll realize
there are only two certainties in life.CLARK
Yeah? What're those?WILL
One, don't do that. Two-- you dropped
a hundred and fifty grand on an
education you coulda' picked up for a
dollar fifty in late charges at the
Public Library.CLARK
But I will have a degree, and you'll
be serving my kids fries at a drive
through on our way to a skiing trip.WILL
(smiles)
Maybe. But at least I won't be unoriginal.
(beat)
And if you got a problem with that, I
guess we can step outside and deal
with it that way.

I'm still interested as to why you have an interest in design.... how'd you come to think "maybe this is good for me?" I hope it's not based purely on the visual aspect :)

not trying to scare you, but the learning process =
locked up in dark room for years and adios to the social life for a while.
once you have it down (you never really do though, once you think you do, you start falling behind), then you have to keep up with the evolving technology.but all that craps only if you want to be any good at it. There's a lot of shite out there, like me :p
