" I believe the best kind of love can only be imparted from a supernatural source "
funny how the most violent nations on earth seem to believe this with the most zeal...

The closest I can come to 'divine intervention' when talking about the source of morality is that another person occupies the same privleged position in the universe as do I, and is equally a child of the marvellous process that brought us to be. You would attach a label to that process, and attempt to draw conclusions about it based on something other than evidence. I would not.
I guess in that regard I am more of a theist than you might suspect, but I see no need for faith - I do not need faith to believe that I am an unfathomably complex and unlikely and precious result of the evolution of the universe, and to draw up princples of behavior toward my fellow man based soley upon that.

Another thought just occured to me: do you think somewhere on the internet right now there's a religious message board with a thread debating Photoshop tips? "Jesus would not use the magic wand, he'd use select color range"
- oh yes they would. they do take their time to make flyers and posters.pango
- And ye, the Lord parted the Red Sea. And the Green Sea, and finally the Blue Sea.mikotondria3

In conversation a buddhist monk once said to me "There are Holier things in this world to pursue that of being right. Righteousness is not always the highest path to take."
The older I get the more I find truth in this and the more those that try to push their personal sense of righteousness on me beyond common sense simply becomes offensive to the nature of the universe.

Why does ANYTHING exist? Ponder that. And then ponder that you are cognizant to ponder that.
Also consider that there is no such thing as abiogenesis. It is a myth. There is only Biogenesis - we know of only life coming from life.
- mikotondria30
Why does anything exist ? Can only be asked from within existence. Any meaningful answer, assuming that there CAN be a meaningful answer must refer to something outside of existence, and being existent, we cannot understand what that is.
Because it isn't.
Anything you postulate outside of existence - doesn't exist.
Even if you give it a name and write angry stuff about it, thousands of years ago, or create vile cartoons of it today. You cannot answer those huge questions, teleos - just creating an answer where there isn't one, or even space for one just doen't cut it.
Questions such as that simply illustrate the theoretical and practical edge of how useful polar dualistic concepts of language are. There are no answers to these questions, the edge of the knowable universe stops with an = sign and a question mark. It's an illusion.

Bonseff:
You make two unwarranted assumptions:
1. That early life was "simple". This is being shown false time and again. For example, ancient sea urchins have all of the DNA code for arms, fingers, etc... The information is present, just not expressed.
2. You assume that the life that produced earth's life is bound by the same natural constraints.
mikotondria:
I love epistemology. But like Bonseff, I think your conclusion is unwarranted. You are placing constraints on existance which are your own. There is nothing that logically demands your conclusion. If we are capable of pondering existance and in fact seem hard wired to pursue "why" we exist, that we can to some degree apprehend what that reason is and who the designer is.
- mikotondria30
Yes, we are hard-wired to ask why of things, as the vast majority of times there is a reason - a happens to b, producing c.
You seem to want a to be something you have decided upon already - 'a designer', b to be the substrate - inert chemicals, and c to be life.
However in this case the 'a' is a property of the b. a IS b which IS c, there is not distinction between the three, it is only on conceptualisation of it, our templating of idea and ideology that produces the illusion of seperation between object and subject, of this and that, me and not-me.

If you believe in the Big Bang then you should understand it's implications... a singularity bursting forth into all matter and energy.
Hmmm... smells of purposive causation.
