i just got a Ricoh GX100 and i cannot fault it!
great pocket sized camera but has a more serious side too ...
shoots RAW, 1:1, 10 Megapixel, and will take a range of aftermarket lenses if you get the HA-2 Adapter£269 from jessops but well worth the extra cash if you want a pocket camera you can use more like a DSLR rather than a crappy wee point n shoot.

this is mine,
its a professional level camera in the body of a compact,
once I got used to it, I couldn't get enough.
ricoh R7 8mp
I think ricoh is way underated- link
http://www.trustedre…Drno - theres an R8 out now too i think. these are good cams too and more affordable than the G ranges23kon

- ive read you gotta work hard to get good pics from this cam23kon
- nothing like a good challenge.
my gf seems better at it than me :Pephix - I guess it's the fixed wide focal length and the slow f4.ok_not_ok
- the auto focus is slow tooephix

The Leica LX3 was on my shortlist for cameras but it didnt weigh up.
My list was the Leica LX3, Ricoh GRD, Ricoh GRDII, Ricoh GX100, Panasonic DMC (leica lens). If you want to see the image capabilities of various cameras youve shortlisted then go to http://www.flickr.com/cameras/
select a brand/cam to see what pics people have been taking using these cameras.

Sigma doesnt get that good reviews, its a great idea in concept but folk reckon it wont be for a year or so before this idea is perfected.
MOO, how indepth do you want to get?
i spent weeks reading everything i could about all the top spec compact cameras before finally deciding.
if you just want a camera to take ok pics, just go down to your local jessops and ask their advice. The Fujifilm F100FD is actually a reallllllly good little compact

Its new out too.
doesnt allow for much control over pics though, everything is automated. a proper lil point n shoot.- looking for something which isn't too pricey for the honeymoon but something i can use my self wehn I can get home want something good thoMoo

the ricoh GRD/GRDII are good cameras but with a fixed lens.
the benefit of the GX100 is the zoom lens, something youd maybe find handy for honeymoon or touristy pics rather than street photography with a fixed lens.
and itd be a good camera to get serious with after the honeymoon.
and without having to splash out on something like the Sigma DP1.

if you just want a simple, inexpensive and reliable and versatile camera, i can vouch for the Canon Powershot series.. just lost my old one and gonna replace with the A720 IS...
its kinda nice sometimes carrying a really cheap camera that's no stress and still takes great pics.
i also really like the size and shape of these things.. i find most new slim cameras too small for my hand to safely grip.

http://www.flickr.com/cameras/ca…- i have the A700, as a carry everywhere kind. I really like the macro feature :) takes some good shots.sea_sea

I got my sister a G9 for xmas, she seems pretty happy with it (she's taking photography classes).
I've got this one
http://www.dpreview.com/news/060…I've been happy with it. Probably a newer one out there by now.

If you have a canon you may be able to improve it:
http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Supe…- that rocksAnees
- and the wiki for better firmware hacks:
http://chdk.wikia.co…jaylarson - fuck, my sd400 isn't supported :(sublocked

- Leica always get the "cool" pointsenfocusmedia
- I do like the design, and quality of the images seems good for that size of camera.slappy
