if you just want a simple, inexpensive and reliable and versatile camera, i can vouch for the Canon Powershot series.. just lost my old one and gonna replace with the A720 IS...
its kinda nice sometimes carrying a really cheap camera that's no stress and still takes great pics.
i also really like the size and shape of these things.. i find most new slim cameras too small for my hand to safely grip.

- i have the A700, as a carry everywhere kind. I really like the macro feature :) takes some good shots.sea_sea
