I see more female graphic designers compare to male g.d. in design studio, today. Few female staffs hinted they hired other female employees compare to male.
Tough world for new male designers i guess.
But still more creative/art directors are males.
comments?

just another example of the man keeping the middle-class white man down. don't worry, our day will come.

Better not, that would be discriminating!! I don't want to think I not gonna get a job just because I have penis.

working for a state school and having been on many hiring committees, i will say this: it is easier, legally, to not hire a white male than any other applicant... we have to give reasons why an applicant was not considered and the HR department is very careful about discriminatory choices. (as they should be i guess)
- not to give the wrong impression, in my time there, my school has employed a very diverse staff.cramdesign
- i better shut up, i'm not saying it right.cramdesign

from most of what i've read, graphic design is uniquely close to 50/50 male/female ratio. that seems to match my experience both in the industry and in school.

Well on my design degree course the female to male ratio was 80/20.
We all had a great time, also worked in studios where there are too many females - can get very bitchy sometimes!- that stat is typical of most college enrollment, not just design.monkeyshine
- in my year was 54:6 (f:m)********

I've been working a couple of time with female designers, great interaction. May I say that I've been at the office with that extra motivation, was great for the projects. Tryin' to give my best to impress that ladies.

I see a lot of female designers. My wife and I are both designers, so she always invites her female designer friends over. It turns into a total design geek party, but that's cool cause at least there are women.
- MFFFFFFFF orgy?harlequino
- i wish. but i have a hard enough time pleasing my wife, let alone multiple women.capn_ron
- That's not something to admit capn_ron!creative-

When I first started out there were easily 5 men to 1 woman. It seems to be slowly changing...though white men still dominate positions of power. I do a lot of work in higher education and there is a trend where enrollment is about 60/40 to 80/20 women. Colleges are trying to attract more guys now. I'm curious how this will play out in the next two generations.
- agree. i see more females in colleges compare to guys. Yet, i see a more diverse group of men in higher position not just 'white male', from my trips to many different cities and countries.********
- yeah, it definitely depends on the industry too.Jaline
- There are definitely more women in arts and political programs, and more guys in science and engineering.Jaline

I actually think that women with any amount of skill get a bit of a lead based on the fact that they bring an entirely new set of ideas to the table. I think that is a great asset for someone hiring a new designer. This isn't to say I think men are in trouble or that terrible women will get the job over a good male designer. I just think that women with a lot of ambition and motivation in this field are a commodity, so when the opportunity comes around they are usually given a bit more attention and generally offered a position faster.
- Yeah...I mean, if you can find the right chemistry within a group, who cares. It's nice to have a variety.Jaline

Nothing wrong with having more fabulous female designers, but it seems tough for the newcomer boys to establish or become themsleves

Jaline just makes up for the girls by posting on QBN all day?
