could be because webdesign is tightly coupled with programming, which girls are not good at by nature, no...?

^I don't think that's true at all (unless you are joking). There are less women in math and science currently but I think that will change as society's ideas about who is good at what change.
- yes, on test scores girls are starting to smoke boys. Times they are a changin.monkeyshine

every aspect of society's ideas about who is good at what changed decades ago. Everyone is free to do whatever he or she wants
If nothing stops female graphic designers to be overrepresented in graphic design, which for long time has been dominated by men, why are there virtually no female programmers?

So you think there is a basic biological reason women don't make good programmers. Could also be the fact that they are constantly told women don't pursue those kinds of careers. It's hard to separate the biological from the cultural sometimes.

Who is telling women not to pursue those kinds of careers? I think its the opposite
I studied at NTNU in Norway in early 2000s, the were something like 90% boys in the informatics department, so one year the university officials decided to lower admission grades for girls, to give them an advantage, organized a campaign to attract girls etc. It worked, the share of girls rose to 40%, next three years -- never so many dropouts in the history of informatics departmenthttp://www.sciencedirect.com/sci…
Suppressed testosterone in prostate patients leads to decreased visuo-spatial ability and a small increase in verbal ability:

At my uni (and I think in general), there are more girls in Journalism, Communication, and Political programs, etc. There are more guys in science, and even more in math and engineering. It's more equal when it comes to History, Music, Architecture, etc. It all depends...

I found there are more women in design in North America than in Europe. I've only worked in Amsterdam and London, so that's my European reference point.
