@2pence - I actually like the guy. The problem is that all of the people in the office told the boss that he could not be made redundant. Then have made up work for him to do so the boss doesn't make him redundant. Now it is paid back to us all by him doing work for other clients while we are so busy we are doing lots of unpaid overtime. Nobody can get anymore money because we are carrying this guy's salary. It feels like he is pissing on our shoes.
- Ahh, OK... gotcha now. Well like someone else said, you need to be open and talk to him about it.********
- If it persists and is affecting your work, take it to the boss.********

I think the bigger question is, what is facksake's regular user name. Pretty obvious he/she is a regular here.
- Not many people call me "J" around here...definitely a current user.Jaline
- Oh I know, so obvious.********
- I call you J, and its a Brit.

Your use of the word redundant has made the meaning even more redundant.
Seems you all brought this down on yourselves as you didn't have enough work for him in the first place then he got used to that, and now that there is work no one is telling him what they expect from him.

haha this is such an uptight designer dilemma!
is it so hard to converse?
stop pussyfooting around and giving yourself an ulcer about it!

@2pence no there is no bigger question.
@flavorful, we had our reasons and those reasons were charitable in the main and entirely benevolent.

what about PIITB? or is that out of fashion now?
- voiceof0
you need to tell him that you and everyone around you paid in to keep him around and as far your concerned, you and everyone in that office own him. He is now your bitch and if he doesn't have enough work to keep him busy you have some dry balls he can get started on.

"The problem is that all of the people in the office told the boss that he could not be made redundant. Then have made up work for him to do so the boss doesn't make him redundant."
Please clarify as this makes no sense, is vague and reeks of horrible grammar. If management isn't delegating work evenly then it is not his fault as there is so much "internal" work one can do. I don't blame the guy for doing freelance IF he is not on project.

Everyone else is "extremely busy" yet you have to create work for him to do?
Sounds like your company has a shitty manager.
- fooler0
seems like you've spent more time bitching about this than the other person actually doing other work. Turn the other cheek until it starts to effect you and your deadlines. Nobody likes a tattle tail.
P.S. Stop reading QBN and get to work slackers!

"management isn't delegating work evenly then it is not his fault " -studderine
Exactly.
- facksake0
@studderine - the management is pretty flat in structure. 1 big boss and everyone else under him, seniority counts a little but that is pretty much it. It is not that the work is not delegated evenly but that he is given work by his colleagues essentially to keep him on a full time salary and instead of helping us out when we are mental busy he does work for freelance clients.
The only thing is to speak to him about it obviously.
- killerqueen0
facksake, if he is not being assigned a role on all these "mental busy" projects, that isn't his fault.
lol @ you bitching about this.
- studderine0
fun times.
- _salisae_0
what i don't understand is you say you give him work to make him appear busy but then you say he doesn't help when you are mental busy. if he's open to accepting work from you then give it to him.
all in all, i'm a proponent of discussing matters with the person you have issues with instead of tattle-telling. it builds a stronger team and others won't feel like you might betray them next AND you don't have to pretend you're perfect.
- harlequino0
Why not tap into this person's freelance work? Get an alliance going, and have them outsource to you. You can both make extra $$ and be in cahoots.
Plus, since he/she is the ringleader, you're not holding the bag, and can fink on them whenever you're in danger.- and then you can write an adventure in design land novel._salisae_
