Nice Elektro, thanks. What's up with the insane amount of breweries in Portland? I hear it's pretty nuts.
- elektromuzak0
beer is popular here. we have so many breweries and strip clubs that it rains beer and strippers.
- elektromuzak0
oh yeah, speaking of strip clubs and late-night cheap eats, check out Acropolis. They have like 5 dollar steak, potatoes and texas toast for like 5 bucks. Pretty damn good deal!
- and the wings at Sassy's - not a great deal, but a better view ;)arthur

Mmmm sounds tasty. People are pretty nice? Approachable?
- elektromuzak0
well, there's this really old lady that works there... she reminds me of that scary old hag in goonies. anyway, if you order to go, you can pick up the order in the back parking lot. there's this cowbell (more cowbell!) that you ring (we had to send an 18-year-old from work to pick up lunch one time, hehe) and this old lady opens this door and hands you your food in a brown paper sack. if you want to avoid the old lady, i'd advise that you go through the front. then you may see some free titty while passing the salad bar to pick up your order. schwing!
- Haha I meant the people in general in Portland, not so much the strip joint. Ty though.Higglesbee

What part of Portland are you moving to?
- I have no idea just yet. My girlfriend is going to accept an offer from OHSU for their doctorate program, so maybe somewhere around that area?? We're still a few months out.Higglesbee
- OHSU is its own little city, I'm sure you'll get a kick out of the tram... for about a week, and then you'll forget it was even there.elektromuzak

the people in pdx... hmm, well they can be assholes in the "pearl district" and the crazy people, homeless and crack dealers are in "old town/chinatown" and they can be funny at times, but also dangerous... the people downtown are kind of neutral. there are tons of hipsters in the hawthorne/belmont area and it's kind of half and half there... half asshole hipsters, and half decently nice people. people think portland is so racially diverse, but in my opinion, the races here are so segregrated. like all the white people are mostly in the downtown/pearl area, and the black people reside in the NE, and the asian community is in beaverton and hillsboro. I always wondered why this is. this is one thing that really bugs me. also, the graphic design market here is soooo oversaturated. way too many designers and artists and not enough jobs. that's why the design salary is so low, and a lot of big design agencies have picked up on this and made a home in portland just to outsource their work to contractors or smaller boutique design studios for a shitty rate. just my 2 cents though.
- Damn. A bit depressing, but glad to hear it straight up.Higglesbee
- Realizing this, Ugh.anzelina
- electromuzak, I'm sensing a pessimistic tone to your posts.arthur
- the black people in the NE? LMAO! Are you really from here?fugged
- born and raised in portland and lived between hawthorne and belmont most of my life. and yes, most of the black community resides in the NE, and is scattered about in old town/chinatown. obviously it's not set in stone, but with my experience (and i'm still living in PDX) this is still the case.elektromuzak
- community resides in NE and scattered in old town/chinatown. as the portland population grows, i'm sure it will slowly become more diverse and neighborhoods will converge.elektromuzak
- slowly become more diverse and neighborhoods will converge. But for now, this is how things are and I've lived in pdx my whole life.elektromuzak
- pdx my whole life.elektromuzak
- where do you hang out fugged?elektromuzak
- in beaverton?elektromuzak

Dang, elektromuzak, that's pretty rough. Can't say I agree. I've never heard anyone who thinks Portland is racially diverse, it's about 98% white, the second whitest large city in the US, after Seattle. I'm from Oakland/Berkeley where I was the minority and the lack of diversity here is weird. Sure, every area has it's own clique, most cities do. The people here are the friendliest I've met anywhere, seriously, and friends and family that have visited me have expressed a similar feeling, and two friends have moved here since visiting.
Every area has it's own flavor and attracts a certain segment of society, that happens everywhere. There are fewer assholes here than in most cities I've visited and lived in. My 2 cents :)
- Sweet!!Higglesbee
- i think if you're coming to pdx from a city like Oakland, sure, everyone seems super nice.elektromuzak
- like mr. rogers, right? but yeah, i'll agree that there are lots of nice people here... butelektromuzak
- i've lived here my whole life and I know how apathetic portlanders really are.elektromuzak
- when it comes to doing the right thing, portlanders are always late to catch the bus.elektromuzak
