I made this awesome 3.5 x 4.5 in book with 190 pages. I need a place that can perfect bind it for me... any thoughts?
and I only need like 50

How did you print them? Self Print? I'm working on something similar, but I haven't figured out how to do a small print run.

build a press and do it. it's easy. and since you only need 50, it'll only take you a week or so.
- if that and depending on how big your press is.antigirl
- holy shit! you are nuts.bigtrickagain

theres a zillion links on the tubes.
here is the first one that came up in google, http://nomediakings.org/doityour…

and here is a picture of perfect bound press.. it's basically, pieces of wood, sandwiched together with holes in both pieces and a nut and a bolt.
it's hardly hard to do..... i didn't even follow instructions.
and than other handsewn (non perfect bound) books.
i think i have been doing it too long and it comes so natural :(

So do you glue the side that you are bounding or what? Never did it myself.

here is a quick one - on how to do perfect bound with no press, just binder clips..

it depends on the style, in order to have a bigger stock (especially now that some boutique stores want to carry them) i do not sew up most of them. they're all glue/perfect bound they sit under a press all night and than the spine is applied to them.
i still sew some up by hand, but to match price points that i want to sell them for, it is not beneficial to do this for everything. i am actually in the midst of starting a handmade book company with two friends right now, since i have a lot of interest from stores that want them.. i am now dragging two of them into the business. we just filed for llc a couple weeks ago! exciting times.

its really just practice.. my craft is a lot better than when i first started.. but that was, like, scary, 9 years ago.... i also do a lot of mock ups for clients and shit (in the past 2 years), so even with that, my craft is getting tighter and tighter. :)

I want to buy a small letterpress but I'm put off by the idea of keeping the chemicals for cleaning the ink in my house. Maybe some day when I get a shed or garage or outhouse or at the least a fenced in area.
- i have a huge bottle of xylene in the closet of my work+live space. i am like oh snap 25% of the time. :)antigirl
- oh ps, i remember you from waaaay back in the day. i didnt know you were on here.antigirl

190 x 50 = a lot of trimming!

these were perfect bound, page count is under 80 though.
basically, what you will do is. get jumbo binder clips, clip up the edges and jog them it is all very even, apply a pva glue to the spine, let it set up, probably over night or 2 days since it's only binder clips, take off, apply the spine.
its 50, so i think.. i derno, i did handsewn up some books that were only an edition of 50 in about a week. so it'll probably about the same to do all of them. just do it in stages, get ten of them with bound spines, than apply the spine to 10 of them. work assembly line style, and it goes a lot quicker.
- Did you make these?********
