I had an old thread but now am starting a new thread. Pointers, tips, suggestions and any other pieces of information are requested. Thanks for your time and enjoy your day.

If you have the chance to get out of Tokyo and see the country, do it. That's the one thing I regret from when i went there in 2006 - the friend I was visiting was being cheap.
I had a blast there - if you want to go somewhere awesome, try and find Namjatown where there exists a section called Ice Cream City. They have shark ice cream! Garlic ice cream! Everything ice cream!
Above all, remember this: pink signs mean services, you know what I mean.

Watch this documentary before you go, could be helpful. Also, try to meet Scarlett Johansson while you're there, I think thats what the tourists do.
Seriously though, enjoy, I hear its a fantastic place. Some friends of mine went on their honeymoon and they loved it and said it wasn't as pricey as they thought it was gonna be.

"109" every floor has like 15 shops each pumping the worst techno aat the highest volume each has 20 plus employees all greeting you like they are on speed-crack, if you make it up to the top floor you will start to think them girls are all saying "SESAME SAND" but they are greeting you... its funny for a minute...after you leave right across the street is an arch-way with a pac-man symbol on it... if you go up that way you will reach all them LOVE-HOTELS!!! also goto all the BEAMS in that area... there is a CitiBank across thestreet from that 9 floor starbucks oh yeh ... PLAY ARCADE!!!!!! EVERYWHERE!!!!!
you will be with yur nephew right... then goto Akihabra and get him a robot... make sure its not a sex robot, those are for you...

i'd second the point about it not being as expensive as you'd expect. except for train travel and some accomodation.
You can do things cheaply though - like eat noodles and tempura in those little bars with the plastic dishes in the window and ticket vending machines - hard to explain but you'll see what I mean. Don't drink beers in hotels etc.
generally you should just soak up the vibes and explore/try/taste as much as you can.
do you know anyone living there? We hooked up with someone we knew so within a few hours we were in a roof garden drinking/smoking weed looking out over the city and then onto a club in some warehouse in a docks area.
amazingly mad.

stay away from all hotel food, it's exorbitantly priced.
otherwise, experience everything you can. it's trully one of the most amazing cities in the world.

I was just there a week ago.
I stayed in Shinjuku. I only had 1 night to go out. I hit up Harajuku, which is a crazy fashion district. It's fun for a walk through. Shinjuku is good for food, not too many bars (or ones that I wanted). Careful around the Kabuki area close to Shinjuku, where poeple try and get you to strip clubs. I've heard horror stories of people getting ripped off bad.We hit up Shibuya for bars. It took us a while to find a place to eat. We ended up drawing pictures of the animals we wanted, then a friend knew the word for "recommend". We hit up a few bars and ended up at some club. It was called Dr Jeenkins or something... and drank and partied until 5:30am.
Photos are here (scroll down the page)

On Sunday go to Yoyogi Park to see the bands that playing on the street and the rockabillys dancing. Also we are having sakura blossom this weekend. Everyone goes to the parks to do picnic and drink lots of sake.
Roppongi Hills has a great view of the city, on 54th floor.
Another great view is in that Lost in Translation hotel... it is in Shinjuku.
Go to Shibuya! Get of in Hachiko exit. They have that huuuge crossing there!!!! Also stores, bars, karaokes and disc stores.
Hope you enjoy here. I just love Tokyo!!!
