Also, steak au poivre is an impossible to screw up dish, don't seem to have the recipe saved in my del.icio.us. Also, Giada DeLaurentis' Fig & Walnut cookies (from foodnetwork.com) are winners.

does no one here cook classic dishes anymore? quick and easy is great, but common food from chain restaurants is horrible. Cinco needs some real preparations, some food with soul that demonstrates the commitment and passion one has, in any exercise. I am looking for:
- Coq au Vin
- Chateaubriand w/ chanterelle veal demi-glaze
- Poule au Pot; (all 3 courses preparation)
- Marrow shanks roast w/ poached quail eggs
- Osso Buco w/ baby roast root vegetables
- Pulled Pork topped w/ caramelized cabbage and polenta
- Seared Diver Scallops atop warm chervil and lemon zest salad
- White Rabbit stew de mostaza and white wine
- Bouillabaisse of Haddock and MusselsIf people would care as much about what they were serving another 10% as much as they do who will win a fucking primary, communities would be stringer and relationships would be pushed in ways that got to real issues and with real feelings instead of idiotic he said/she said/they said crap.
I want you to have a wonderful meal tomorrow, Cinco, and please- show this audience that whatever meal you do end up preparing that you considered every detail obsessively. That, will come through every time to the person on the receiving end of your table.

I'm arriving a bit late but what about this, its easy and takes a total of 40 minutes and smells great while you're doing it...
2 Tilapia Fillets.
1/3 cup of olive oil
couple of tbl's of washed capers
8 bruised Garlic
Some tarragon
lemon peel (very fine)
Sea Salt and Black Pepper
8 - 10 Grape tomatoes cut in HalfUse half the oil and combine with everything but the fish. Put it in a roasting pan and bake in a pre-heated 350 oven for 20 minutes.
Place fillets over the mixture and add the rest of the oil and bake for a further 20 minutes.
Serve with a bit if the mixture over the fillets, a nice heated baguette and salad with lots of different colours. Let's the wine shine, no-one is overfull and the pie can wait for an hour.

How bout some fennel chicken? I used to chef around in my previous career. This recipe rocks. I spent almost a year perfecting it.
You need some pernod to make it right. Email me if you are interested. But, it is very EASY.

sushi just prepare and you can make the rolls together, get a little hands on and you can get a preview of her technique ;)
- Actually an awesome idea...but every time I've tried that at home it comes out pretty crappy! Need to impress!CincodeMayo

The only thing you have to make for a V Day Dinner is a Roofie Colada ... come on everyone knows this.
When she comes over, just get a pot, put some water in it, start boiling the water and go:
Haha, I'm sorry I lost track of time, I'm just getting started. At least now you can tell I'm really making the food though, ah thank you!
* Wait until she stops making noises signifying she is done talking. *
Oh yea. Hey here ...
* Hands drinks that you have been acting like you've been drinking from. *
I took like a few sips out of this it's pretty good. It kind of tastes like ...
* Broad passes out after just smelling it. *
EWE!!!! IT TASTES LIKE BIGFOOT'S DICK!!

Cinco, your original idea makes my mouth water. Minus the yams.

This is one I've done many times before, always get rave reviews:
THAI TILAPIA
Tilapia grilled with lemon, olive oil, s/p and a little red pepper.
While that's grilling (you can also prepare this ahead of time), saute 4 cloves garlic and a couple tablespoons (how spicy do you want it?) of Thai chili paste in a pan for a minute or so. Add 1 can coconut milk, about 3 tbsp. rough chopped ginger, juice of 2 limes, and about 3 tbsp. roughly chopped cilantro. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes (no trick to this, you just don't want the cilantro and the garlic to get funky).
While doing the sauce, do up any kind of basmati rice (add a little cinnamon and basil for a nice extra touch).
Serve rice in the middle of a large dinner plate, top with grilled tilapia, and pour liberal amount of sauce on top. You might want to dust it with a bit of red pepper. The whole thing takes about 30 min. to prepare. It's the only thing I can cook that's not just simple grilling, and I made it up myself. It's sweet, spicy and super tasty.
This would go rly well w/ your jicama salad.
- Damme gramme, that sounds yummy. Think I'm leaning towards scallops but I'm making that for me!CincodeMayo
- Tilapia? Tilapia is fish! Fish live in their own sewer, and they don't dress very well either.AndyRoss
