how much money do rcokstars make? I'm watching the metallica documentary and it states that they've sold 90 million albums. How many dollars per album does the band get? How much do these clowns make?

Bands usually make very little (sometimes nothing) on album sales, unless it's huge huge numbers. Not sure about song royalties after the fact though. Production and marketing eat up most of the album sales money.
Bands ususally make most of their money through touring and appearances.

That Metallica documentary was a great movie, btw.

everything after the black album was vomit-inducing.
- Concured...and everything after that as well. And half the Black album as well.TheBlueOne

whats the verdict on the new album folks?...blueone? is it any good?
i honestly haven't dug them since 'and justice for all'....but am curious to know if the new stuff is any good...have a funny feeling it probably sucks tho...- Um, undecided. It sounds like a polished demo or unmixed master...TheBlueOne
- ..sounds like Garage Days meets Black, with a little St. Anger in there..TheBlueOne
- Better than St. Anger, that's for sure. And there's guitar solos.TheBlueOne
- yeah. i would agree. can't be fully mastered yet. but interesting. not my fav by long shoitmadirish
- Vocals are off in the mix...not alot of depth on the lowend, so this is a production leakTheBlueOne

Harlequino is right, touring is a huge thing for bands. Unless you a huge band you're not drinking Chrystal (spelling?) every day.
Rappers have it made. Low production costs all the way. Few keyboard and some software and boom, done.
Full bands have a little more issue with studio and recording costs. Although I don't believe a band needs to live in a studio for a year. If that's the case, just build your own, it would be cheaper... and more fun,

bands go into debt when they tour.
- Far from the truth. Depends on a lot of things..TheBlueOne

no, you dumb fuck. have you ever actually been in an indie band?
i dont give a shit about major talentless acts like Metallica with assloads of record label funding behind them.
take even an incredible act like Trail of Dead. Conrad Keely himself says they prepare for debt every time they tour.
the majority of bands can make more money licensing their music for commercial purposes than they could ever make in tours, record sales, etc.

Vague, my high school buddy has been in a Death Metal band now for 20 years now:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imm…)
He still has a day job, but they tour alot and he makes money. Not enough that he can quit his day job (he owns his own company there as well though), but they cover tour expenses, can pay their crew, etc. + Tshirt sales and other merchandising helps. And death metal is a pretty tiny, but steady niche and they have a following. They've also been doing for 20 years and know the business side inside and out pretty much. I know guys in more mainstream indy bands have a different structure, but these days but you can always make money touring if you're smart...
- tell your death metal friend and his faded-denim friends i said congratulationsvague
- dude, you're mad.mrdobolina
- A little more buddy pimpin':
http://www.myspace.c…TheBlueOne - OK Vague, when you put a 20 year career together in the music business drop me a line.TheBlueOne
