i've recovered from the beating also known as my previous logo crit and i'm up for it again...
this client is a startup cycling shop (road bikes and mountain bikes) with an urban/modern feel. they are in need of a logo for their company "Spin Junky".
all feedback welcome - thanks :)

absolutely not: #1,2,3.
i think your only way of escaping a dj 'esque feel to the name is to bank on a symbol such as the gears in #7...but those are getting dangeroulsy close to the robot love logo:
http://robotlove.biz/Robot_Love_…you should also probably stay away from the techie type style you have with all your initial logos.

They feel a little too soft and feminine to me. More like logos for spinning classes at the ywca. Out of all of them I think I prefer # 6 because it's the cleanest. Seems to me something gritty or with attitude would be more appropriate.

I like the spirals in v9, but not the typeface... potentially integrate the spiral into the bowl of the 'p' rather than dotting the 'i's. Think coffee shop from the 90's. that style seems to be alive within cycling.

I understand that your client has tasked you with something thats not literal but I wouldnt run away from a mark that describes what they do. Do some research on the history of their company or the products they sell. Create a mark that tells a non literal story or captures a piece of what they do that they never would have thought of. Playing with typefaces and ways to connect letters should be the last thought, in my opinion.

Jevad is right. I'm a cyclist and I'd never walk into a bike shop with a logo like that. Probably because I'd assume it was a day spa or something. Needs to be more aggressive & masculine.

#2 with a little more finesses added.

8 is my choice but to be honest with a name like 'spin junky' all the logos seem pretty tame and slightly softer than you would expect.

kinda like the idea of the signature on no.4
idea suggestion:
using the two dots of the 'i' and the 'j' and making one larger than the other.....at a ratio like the two cogs on a single speed/fixed wheel bike. Also agree on the typeface, needs to be a bit chunkier. like a heavy futura or soho or something? or maybe look at italian or vintage or other european bicycle manufacturers for inspration

I'm moving to San Diego to big a big slice of this logo pie as you seem to be doing a different logo every week...

def. not: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9
Put more work in it beside playing with type

I can't believe how horrible that PDF problem is with the 4-vector point rects. It's horrifying!! Fix it adobe!

i think you definitely want something edgier and more aggressive (at the risk of sounding like a client. shudder...gross, now i feel dirty) when i hear "junkie" i think dirty, strung-out, obviously for this company you want adrenaline, obsessive, fun, crazy, etc. i think your first 9 are showing a much more subdued, clean, techy feel
good start though and +1 for posting
- distress, it always works for the grittier feel. print it out and sand it, then scan it in again.capn_ron

Needs more ideas on paper. I think you can find something in the name to not be so literal that it is a bike shop, but it needs something to relate the two. All i think of is some dj company or dj accessories with that name.

I'm rather fond of 9. For the simple reason it reminds me of ladies nipples.

I like 3 best... kinda reminds me of tyre levers. Though the type underneath needs to fit more...

I agree that these look like a dj shop to me. It's also a bad name for a cycle shop
