Yeah my girl friend can't get over the fear. She's always what can I do to get better. I keep tell'n her to grow a set.... she doesn't like that answer.

I am kind of afraid of falling too, and I don't get scared easily. Must be a specific fear.

I wonder if it's a control thing. You know when you get going so fast that you think that you can't control it and so you're brain goes "SLOW DOWN" I think you have to shut that off.

here's the thing, 3 main parts to snowboarding, weight over front foot, need to use the correct edge (toeside or healside, depending on direction) and steering the board with the back foot (like a rudder on a boat). Everyone I've ever taught does this. They get going too fast and they lean back, weight on back foot. So they cannot actually steer and just keep getting more out of control and fall. So if you're riding with them, and you see them doing this, just keep reminding them, "weight on front foot". They well eventually have that "ah Haaaaaa" moment, and learn if I'm outta control, I turn across the hill and slow down, getting back in control.
Follow the leader takes the, "when should I turn" out of their heads. they just do it, because they see you do it. simple, but it works.

If you want to learn, get someone who teaches to teach you. So many people take out their friends and try and teach them how to ride – and in the end they teach them poorly (washing out the tail rather than using the edge, not distributing weight correctly, not understanding flexion/dorsiflexion, etc, etc) not because they are bad riders but because they aren't amazing riders. Get someone who knows how to teach – not someone who shows the other person how they ride.
(sounds a bit preachy, but I got a brother who's a coach, and the difference between learning from someone like him and learning from anyone on the hill is astounding).

Burton Dragon 02 or Jussi's 03 pro model. They're old but they rip. The Dragon is nice and soft now and is allot of fun to play with :D
