pk man, i'll be thefirst one to say: "WTF were u thinking?" I don't know, maybe it's they way how my mom threats the whole imigration thing, but i though everyone knows that green cards expire 10 years after... I'm on my second one (cause the first one i lost 1 month before it expired).
BTW, if anything else fails u can still try to travel on some american's passport that kind looks like u. I know number of people who did it -- highy illegal if u get caught though.
Also let us know how it got solved.

The same thing has happened to me 2yrs ago. I flew out in Montreal and didn't know my greencard has expired. when I landed in Montreal, i showed my passport and greencard and nobody said anything. then on my way back, we were driving back in to Vermont.
We got to the checkpoint and show my driver's license, my gf is an American so she had no problem just with that. the custom officer looked at me and asked me for my passport and greencard. i handed to him, yeah, i got all the SHIT, duuuudde!. He checked them then went like..."Sir, do you realize your greencard is expired? what do you do in New york?"
me: I work for an ad agency.
him: so, you are telling me that you live in NYC and work in USA illegally.
me: well, i guess TECHNICALLY that's correct. I wasn't aware my green card expired.
him: sir, you need to drive to the side and come in to the office.so i went in to the building and they make me wait for like 10min. the officer is checking on the computer screen about my record. I travel a bit so my passport has so many entry stamp. the officer called another guy to check something on my record. looking super suspicious.
finally, the guy called me and said "fill this form in when you get back home" and handed me a document. i was like... that's is??
i went back to the car and told my gf "hon, they gonna retain me here till things gets resolved, probably for a couple of days. you should just drive and see your friends in Vermont. I'll be fine"
i was still freaked out i might get deported for some weird reason. now i know i have to renew every 10yrs.

Right well...I'm living a nightmare right now.
Status has been cancelled - so I have to reapply. That means I am going to be stuck here a minimum of 2/3 weeks.
That's fine - but it also means I won't be able to take my son home - that I have to put him on a plane alone and have my wife meet him, and that's what really gets me.
It is my own fault for not keeping up with my status, but then why the fuck did I pay an immigration lawyer thousands of dollars, and why am I now paying her thousnads more to re-file?!
The biggest mistake I made was not applying after 2 years to get the conditional status of my green card taken off.
This is so fucked UP!!!
- madirish0
dude. this is horrible. i am sorry you are under this situation, but to not reapply is really, really poor. :(
again, i wrote you, but if you need help, let me know. but you have it under control it sounds like it.
let me know.
- jevad0
I swear to god nobody told me that I had to reapply. If I had been told it was of the utmost importance - or this would be the consequence - it would have been done. Without question.

damn man, that sucks....not like you haven't heard that enough!
but seriously, 2-3 weeks min.? for some odd reason that doesn't surprise me.the fact that you had to send your son, alone, on a plane back home fucking kills it :(
best of luck to you nic. although i don't know you personally, you seem like a good father (with bad taste in music...:) )i wish you a quick return here to the states. but more importantly to your son.
- jevad0
Gracias everybody. Slowly coming to terms with the fact that I am going to be here for a few weeks. And that ultimately, I might not get to stay in America. It's a daunting feeling that makes me feel ill, but I have good friends and family around, and some top-notch immigration lawyers handing the case:
My dad is flying Danny back to the states and them getting a return flight back here the next day. Once he is back with his mother I will feel much much better.
- Oh I've worked with them. Ironically, no funny business. *Boom-chik!harlequino
- Chin up Jevad, this thing can be resolved.Peter

This is a nuisance situation. Good luck, jevad!
A good friend is an immigration lawyer (just passed bar) on this coast. So if you need to do anything or advice from this end of the universe, add my email address to your list. :)
Hope all goes well getting the lad home.
