This isn't a gaming forum but I'm sure (hoping) the average age of people here is over 14. I've just a quick rant about the state of gaming and the amount of mindless shite that's being churned out by game developers these days.
I just watched a gameplay video of Devil May Cry 4. You know the story, demon fights monsters, boss battles, the like. However, for some reason, they thought it necessary for the main character to sport catchphrases like "go to hell!" and "slam dunk!" during fights. What the fuck?!
Considering the average age of gamers is 33 I think developers these days are really missing the mark. The last time I was impressed by a game was GTA Vice City since the developer didn't pander to 14 year old boys and popular culture. I want stuff I can believe in. If I want to be a 13th Century assassin, don't make my 'control' him through a 21st Century spaz called Desmond. If I want to shoot people online I don't want them to be aliens , Iraqis or Germans. And if I want to drive a Subaru Impreza at 140mph through the woods I don't need Travis fucking Pastrami-baws telling me I'm fucking awesome.
Anyway, for some reason this has made me sick with rage and it's killing my buzz. Nighty night.

I want to do things in games that I can't do in real life. Not feed a three foot fucking plumber some suspect looking mushrooms and make him jump around. Or spend three hours being shot in the face by some 13yo cunt who's decided to cheat at Resistance.

haha i agree completely with you 5stimuli, i've pretty much lost interest in gaming (even with the 360/ps3) because i've all played it before, it just looks nicer in HD - but that thrill doesn't make me want to play a game i have played a million times before. Untill the Wii came about...sure most games look 'kiddy'. But much more people are apperently interested in cute well made and playable games than 'look how AWESOME i am' ps3/360 shite. I think you need a lot pimples to actually like the overviolent crap, teenage heaven. Look I am somebody now, I can KILL PEOPLE! I feel so empowered. sigh.
I think Nintendo games are the most mature and advanced form of interactive entertainment, because they actually innovate on an interaction design level (both physical and gameplay wise). I have been a fanboy for a long time, they lost me for a while with the ps1 and Final Fantasy 7. But with the Wii, i am sooo back to Nintendo. I really thought I have given up on gaming. This stuff inspires me, if you see some of the cool things people do with a wiimote and a mac/pc amazing...
