honestly leftwave, it's not good. Looks like a postcard from Daytona Beach (Florida, where they drag-race on the beach). The font is very poorly designed. Fine if you want to depart from the traditional, buttoned-up look...but this is the most important day of your life, man. I think you can more subtly hint at your oceanic connection by the using of ink and paper colors.
In my opinion, your wedding collateral should be a typographic masterpiece. If I could, I'd do mine all over again in a heartbeat. I'd make it more timeless. You want something that you will still like 30 years from now.

very well put, gramme. i think she feels the same way about the piece and it's intent, but is not seeing beyond the "now" (IMO).
oh, and i 100% disagree that it is the "most important day of your life" bit... :)

By the way, leftwave is a woman.

i still appreciate everyones feedback, but can someone try to give me some actual font ADVICE. you know....
"try this instead?"
"how about using blah blah"
etc etc

1. Sorry I assumed you were a dude. won't happen again.
2. type suggestions.
I used this one, it worked very well. Loads of alternates & OT features...though it would require a different visual direction than what you have now:

This one could be used to great watery effect:
http://www.veer.com/ideas/feelsc…another:
http://www.veer.com/products/typ…You don't want the whole thing to be set in a script font, that will be hard to read (script fonts are really only useful for headline and sub-head settings). I'd suggest pairing it with a stylish, classic but contemporary serif. Dino Dos Santos has a few good ones, namely Andrade Pro (even comes w/ a script version that could be used instead of some others mentioned above), and Leitura:

Other ideas:

Quixote, Batin:

...This is all a bit of an exercise in futility I suppose, you first need a design direction which will direct you toward or away from certain fonts.

gramme: thank you!! these are some nice looking fonts and i think a good direction for me.
i'm really pretty set on the photos and the phrase that i've got so far. i think it suits us so well. i will try to refine the font selection though...
if anyone has any other advice, please... bring it on!
PS: don't worry about #1 :)

Aren't you supposed to be a designer, leftwave? This looks like a student project.

lol, I didn't see DrNo's either, that is absolutely pathetic.

General concepts "alright", but too many different typefaces and sizes going on. Also, I don't like the picture being in a box with the beach pic graduating out. Not sure what to suggest on that front... but yeah, less typefaces / sizes... and, maybe better choice of type as suggested already, then play with the rest.
- leftwave0
incase you didn't read the first post: the ocean picture isn't in "a box". that is going to be a magnet that comes off the card that people can stick on their fridge.

I know what the main problem is. Everything's fighting for attention. Not enough contrast between the primary focus and the finer details - same goes for the photo imagery - pic in the box is bold and "significant" in what it shows, but the big type all around in general distracts, as do the big starfish / graduated beachy image.
Maybe try simplifying, making ONE image the main focus, like, really really amplify the focus on it, the leave space between the focal point in the image (the kiss) and the text. I'd be tempted to Photoshop more sea-blue out to the edges of the canvas and have all text below the main image "at the bottom of the ocean".
- I don't mean write the text "at the bottom of the ocean" I mean... as if it's below you, on the sea bed. Sort of. Maybe.thismanslife

Haha, whoops, no, I didn't read that.
I'm a designer, a VISUAL person, I don't "read".

I would spend the money on some very nice paper instead of magnets. It is a little "made in Korea" for my taste but it's your wedding and you should do what ever the fuck you want!
