why not?... both science and religions are a study of 'why'...
... both search for facts... both provide comfort when we're rather clueless...
- mrdobolina0
Do you go to church or to a doctor for your heart ailment? And why?
- Brookoioioi0
always makes me laugh when you get idiots writing on a computer on forums saying 'science is faith' yeah right, planes stay up because of our 'faith in science' My posts appear in the PVN because of a strong inner conviction...Science works bitches. Deal with it or fuck off and live in cave...

what a non-answer! So The Great Dictator can't or won't provide actual evidence for it's own existance? And therefore i should try and invent it for myself like you have? Remember, i'm not asking for revelation, for me to believe in somthing it needs to be verifyable outside of my own experience. I've dangled my feet off the edge of the world enough times to know what kind of madness a mind can produce on it's own.
So i can criticize people who i disagree with can i? Thanks Ponyboy i don't remember asking for permission but it's nice to know...

(Oct 25 07, 07:21)Geez...for someone so verbose you seem to be having trouble staying on track with me. Try to focus.
God can, does and did prove his existence: there is his inspired word, which has yet to be disproven in any way by any human being. There is the evidence of intelligent design in the warp and whoof of nature.
For the last time, I HAVE NOT INVENTED GOD. HE has REVEALED himself TO me and others. Neither I nor anyone has or is capable of fabricating a God whose very nature (true love, sacrifical grace, etc.) runs so counter to the fabric of humanity. Gods that have been invented by humans have human traits through and through. They are to a man (or woman, cat or turtle) imperfect and limited in their powers. They can be corrupted.
God is as we would be if we were perfect and infinitely powerful. We are not capable of inventing such a thing. The singular character of the God of the Bible is evidence of this – no other God is remotely similar once one digs into the available literature and knowledge.
And I agree with you, it must be verifiable outside of my own experience. I'm not exactly the only person who has experience the hand of God. There are countless others. They have seen his miracles and witnessed his power first-hand.
I know a man in Mexico who attempted to feed a hungry crowd of poor people on Christmas Eve in Mexico city. He had a small number of roasted chickens to hand out. At first there was only a small group, and plenty to go around. They had about 20 chickens, one for each family.
Soon, however, word got out and the poor came in by droves. Eventually there were several hundred people. The man and his friends prayed that God would provide, right there on the spot.
They never reached the end of the supposed 20 chickens. No one was able to leave and search for more. They simply kept reaching into their van for roast chickens, and the stock was not depleting.
Several hundred families were fed that Christmas Eve.
When the crowd dispersed, the man and his friends looked in their van and saw that it was still full of way more than 20 chickens. They proceeded to drive around the poor neighborhoods of Mexico City until 2 AM, handing out roasted chicken.
Finally, they came home exhausted, not because they ran out of chicken but because they were dead on their feet. They had a number of chickens left and put them in the freezer.
The following morning the man woke up, refusing to believe what had happened the night before. He walked into his kitchen, opened the freezer and there was still a pile of chicken.
I heard this story first hand from a man who is sane by all accounts, a well-known philanthropist, and one of the most well-spoken and kind people I know.
There's one sliver of evidence for you that is outside of any one person's experience. There were many witnesses to that Christmas miracle. Believe it if you will.

you're a crackpot. pretty simple really. sorry if that offends you but chickens do not appear out of thin air. you're nuts.
- Brookoioioi0
Great, so you enjoy your group delusion, good for you. Nice ancedote, you knew a man (next paragraph you didn't know him) but a man once told you a story about some guy who's chickens never ran out, he was nice so it must be true. And you think this is evidence how!!!! Are you on the Meth or the Ketamine btw?
- jamble0
dobs... my faith has never disproved itself... it's been constant - set on the same morals... history... and words that have not been rewritten to suite my 'new' needs in life.
*awaits the feeble-minded comments to continue

(Oct 25 07, 07:33)Your faith is only a belief based on something instilled in you from a young age by your parents (I assume), it's not something you were born with, it's a habit formed from years of exposure to repetitive tales of biblical wonderment.
- lvl_130
I came up with a tagline for an ad I'm doing for a medical clinic. It's Christmas themed ad and the tagline reads...O Come, All Ye Painful.
Some folks in the office thought it was blasphemous. What do you guys think?

... just like our existence came into play through an accidental explosion? Isn't that 'out of thin air'?... which in turn lead to celled organisms... then eventually Apes?... which in turn lead to Man?...... wait... why are there still Apes if we evolved from them?... WHY ARE THERE STILL SINGLE-CELLED ORGANISMS?!!! some chose to just... 'stay mediocre'?
... anyway... I hope you see my point... putting your 'faith' in science almost makes you a crackpot, pretty simple really. sorry if that offends you but chickens do not appear out thin air as you put it.
- jamble0
I thought it was an alright one lvl_13 but it didn't entirely make sense.
Come all ye painful?
Surely painful is not quite the right word?
- flagellum0
jamble: In my case, faith was something I did not have growing up. Nor did I have exposure to Bible stories. It was through honest examination of the evidence, that I came to faith. Like CS Lewis and countless others.
What you people don't seem to grasp is that faith is not a blind leap. It is a reasonable decision to trust in something/someone, based on evidence. Faith, based on facts.
- mrdobolina0
no one says we were once apes, they say we have a common ancestor with apes, so to coin a flagellum phrase, that is a straw man argument.
So no, I do not see your point.

//no it's not!!! it's based on what Mommy and Daddy drilled into my feeble-little-mind!!!

you're fucking crazy and dangerous, you fecking idiots always sound exactly the same when you argue - it sounds as if you have your face slightly upturned, eyes half shut , rocking backwards and forwards with your hand in the fucking air like you're waving at this fictional notion you have created to fill the void that you do not have the BALLS to face.
FUCK
THE
FUCK
OFF
You lot are dangerous, tedious and closer in every regard to this devil character that you teach kids is real (you fucking cunts) than any behavior I or any of my rational colleagues. Please, be 'taken up' as soon an inhumanly possible.
- lvl_130
so were you going to post in a non-faith related thread flagellum? okay then.
jamble, i agree. the word pain is a bit odd.
- flagellum0
yes, mikotondria, and your emotional tirades are most definitely rational, right?
Seems to me that you might be the dangerous one.
- gramme0
Brook you continued to misunderstand.
I know the man personally, his name is Saul Cruz of Armonia Ministries in Mexico City. He is a longtime friend and associate of my father. The man is quite lucid. I heard the story first-hand from him. His wife, children and several hundred poor people attest to the verity of the story I told above.
I haven't been under the influence of drugs since 1996. I haven't been under the influence of alcohol since 2004. By all accounts my brain is quite intact and grounded in reality. Several thousand people who know me in some capacity seem to think so, at any rate...for whatever it's worth.
- PonyBoy0
"we have a common ancestor with apes"...
... lolz!!!! Please... tell me who or what that 'common ancestor' is...
... and you call my argument a straw man argument...
... IT'S A BIG FAT THEORY that holds NO WATER.
... Please... again... DISPROVE God or Intelligent Design. You can't... just like I can't disprove the 'big bang' or 'evolution'... but I can poke holes in them alllll day long.
- ********0
AHAHAHA..!!
"If we evolved from single cells, why are there still single celled lifeforms.... ?"You have aaaaaabsolutely NO NO NO NO NO understanding of what the rest of the educated literate world understands, do you?
- flagellum0
What these threads get is a lot of emotion and very little discussion of the evidence and it's merits.
Telling.
