if it takes you 15 seconds to turn a layer off, somethings wrong.

yes i know... but i'm just wondering if the new os is more robust cleaner code... efficient... ayadyaydayaydyaydya. .. or if it's more like what vista is to windows

(Oct 17 07, 11:06)well, i meant that operations while inside your application (photoshop) may not get any faster processes outside your applications will run smoother, take less time to load and shit like that.
i upgraded to 10.4 a while ago on my ibook and it made a noticable difference in speed boost, but rendering and saving files inside photoshop stayed the same. that's just processor power.
i'll be upgrading to a nasa 1 flopaflip computer this fall. with it i should be able to track every human on earth and i think it comes with an f16 key that allows me to turn anything instantly into a working website.

I'm looking to upgrade to another MAC.......laptop vs. Mac Pro tower
usually never home so thinking laptop.
but i feel the need for speed. quad processor! :Dintel core duo - book or book pro.
or should I stay older model PC processor powerbook.
- k0na_an0k0
cs3 will run better on the new intel processors than it will on the powerPC. that's really what cs3 was made for.
i'm currently running a dual 2.something Ghz power pc g5 with 2.25 ram and quite honestly, cs3 ran faster on my 2.16Ghz macbook pro with 2 G ram.
i'm in the same boat as you. every week i change my mind about what i want.
macbook pro w/ dell 24" ws.
24" imac
dual core g5 with cinema.
changes weekly. haha.

i'm just thinking that a 15" or 12" is going to do nothing but annoy me a bit....and I'm going to want the G5 with 24" cinema display

The 'core animation' thingy that it uses allows for fancy graphics with a small hit on processing power (I think).
Performance isn't all do with processor and memory, it's mostly to do with how the software is written.
I had a 'beta' version of Leopard and installed it on a partition of my G5 iMac and the basic OS ran faster than Tiger. I can't comment on apps like Photoshop etc 'cause I didn't have anything else installed.
I'm sure on Intel Mac's it will fly...
Things like spaces/time machine/quicklook*/better security features plus the other 296 updates make it worthwhile in my opinion?
*Quicklook could be a bit gimmicky but I think it could actually be quite useful if you can get past the 'its just coverflow' thing.
That's my 2p anyway.

will it give me bigger erections?

OS X is not slow, but it is not that fast at all compared to XP. More speed please apple.

If I purchase a single user license and install it on 3 macs, will I get killed?
- wyclef0
dude. are you kidding? if anything leopard will make you machine a slow piece of shit so you think your machine is obsolete and have to go run out and buy the latest mac. it's all psychological. you buy new machine, they release new software to make your machine run slower and you buy newer machine.

I will upgrade as soon as it makes sense. To me that means once apple releases 10.5.1 or even 10.5.2.
I have always employed this 'waiting' scheme after upgrading to 9.0 on the day of it's release and then crashing.
While apple makes great stuff they typically leave the 1st generation or early adopters in the lurch.

just bought the aluminum imac 20". i have my 20" aluminum cinema display as an extended desktop. 2.0ghz, 2gs of ram.
vs. my 15" pb g4. 2 gigs of ram.
both with the latest os and cs3.
everything is faster on the imac. tiger was made before intel so on both machines, the os runs well, but faster and smoother with the intel and 2 processors. everything works nicer on the imac, the screen is sick, and about a third brighter than the latest cinema displays.
cs3 will run on the older chips but it definitely wasn't made for it. cs3 on the intel is faster. no question. if you are having problems with the type tool in ps, you need to do some os/ps optimization.
they really do want you to buy new machines. the new machines are sick. and just get better every update, in my opinion. great thing is, the old shit always works. macs are like roaches. killable, but hard to kill. if you are good with your kit, you can cultivate your little family of macs for generations.
my op.
- dsb0
but then again, macs will be double as powerful next year

--------------------------------...Speaking of which (perhaps this has appeared in a previous thread but I'm gonna ask anyway) does anyone have an idea of when Mac is going to release laptops without optical drives? I've heard this is in the works. (as you can tell I'm not a Mac expert but I'm interested to know b/c I need a new mac)

(Oct 18 07, 05:33)this is a crappy attitude.
case in point; my old 1st rev BW G3 (like 333mhz) was pretty much unbootable under the final releases of Panther... then Tiger came along all clean and well built and gave the old box new life.

if you are riding Apple's latest gear, you will probably see improvements in performance. Leopard has be designed to use cores if applicable, so you should a lot of general system improvement. Applications are run how they are written. For instance, Adobe, if adobe does not write code to work with duel cores, you will run one core. At times the OS can be smart and utilize the other core for other system resources. SO your answer is YES and NO.
Enjoy Leopard. Gonna be a great improvement to the eye for sure, I have all ready spec'd my MBP, 2.4, 4 gigs, 7200- 200 gig drive for the upgrade. I also am taking Friday off. I can not wait for the ups guy to come over to my house and have me answer the door naked.
Yes I am an apple fan boy. kill me.
