(Sep 30 07, 19:28)o i understand, its more of a moral choice.
i think there is a difference between accumulation of mp3 and accumulation of music.
for the love vs for the number of songs
- M0NEYCIDE0
yeah Jaline it's called trusting respecting and including your fans in your business not turning them into theives like metalica.
metalica = old
stars = with it

I do agree that album artwork and packaging is sometimes worth buying the CD for. Even to "support" the artist, but I'm still unsure of what exactly this means.
The band "Stars" had their most recent CD available for download (through online purchase) about one month before the release date specifically because they knew someone would inevitably leak it anyway. On their website, they mentioned this: "It's our hope that given a clear, legal alternative to downloading music for free, you will choose to support the creators." Clever.
Nowadays artists are adding more extra stuff into their CDs because they realize that there needs to be more of an incentive for many people to buy the product. Although if you're a real fan and you have the money it makes sense to just get the album. Or just go to the show with your newly purchased CD and get them to sign it like I do :)

sadly
you are all canadians
:(
like i have said, i am not saying what you are doing is wrong. i just try to deter someone, but i cant say you are crazy. everyone has reasons.
in my eyes, stealing is wrong in any sense. for you, justification over rules the norms of morality.

"who is going to off set the balance their investments?"
Bottom line is album sales isn't the end all be all of their investments. Artists at any level are a full package from live shows, singles and t-shirts. There's money to be made no matter what, music sells. It's like asking "But who's going to offset the cost of the free peanuts on the bar?" The answer is more beer sales. Why do restaurants give free bread at the beginning of meal? You'll drink more. Granted it's not exactly the record company that has decided to do this to sell more stuff it's just the consumer who did it, morally or not, but the companies are going to have to learn to start giving away peanuts for free to sell more beer. The people have spoken.
- MrD0
o i agree jaline, i used to do that a lot.
i think there is a certain mystery and anticipation about new music that you buy.
there are fillers in an album but i prefer that feeling of discovery
each of that new one you discover and love is well worth the price of full albums
- Jaline0
cphunk has a point too.
I would never have discovered half the artists I know now of if I didn't download and listen to .mp3s from online (including torrents, TV network sites, samples at online stores, music blogs, etc.). This reminds me of something else. I spend money on live shows, and most of those artists are musicians that I discovered online first.

MONEYCIDE, you're the one who posted this link:

sorry dude, i dont click on mp3s period
best way to figure out what can happen is look at whats happening in Hong Kong cinema
they actually stopped releasing movies because of extensive pirating.
than you are wondering where all these movies are coming from. they are funded by china. If you make a movie is china, you are free from government control but now, most of the movie stars are doing TV shows there.
granted it is not as extensive here but rather the music is shit, manufactured, or little has to do with creativity, i think its more of a moral question for me than anything.
when you have not paid for something that and the person who owns the right did not consent it, i think its stealing.
think this way, recording companies invest in artist to release albums. if they are successful, they dont get paid. who is going to off set the balance their investments?
the idealistic view that you have of music could be the drawn from your experiences but from my experience is not from music industry, rather its just morality of my being. I just dont do it because i dont think its the right thing to do.
just because i dont do it, it doesnt mean that i am full of shit.
