honestly, i fucking HATE the current client we are working with.
at what point is it justified for a client to request that a word/text/graphic be tried in a different colour?
it's that colour for a reason you fucking fuck, THE SAME REASON I EXPLAINED THE LAST TIME!
FUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKK!

Annoying isn't it? Everyone thinks they can design, especially the lower down the food chain they are.
If these bitches don't trust your judgement, you gotta start wacking them with wet towels and shit.
Works for me.
- phatlee0
Try to chill, getting worked up will only stress you out. You need them to trust you and have confidence in what you do. Explain your reasons and the advantages and disadvantages. If they're still not having it just go with the flow.
Chill...

also, probably not always a good idea to rant on a message board about it. your boss (or future boss) might be reading. just ask baskerville.

sorry, behind all the swearing there was a real questions:
at what point is it justified for the client to tinker with colours, shapes and layout?
personally, i don't think there is justification; we're not designing for them - we're designing for their users. additionally, the design, style, layout or indeed any other matter should not be up for debate based upon a stake holders colour preference.
what do you think?
- skt0
"we're not designing for them - we're designing for their users"
Yeah, if only that was always the case. But whilst they write the cheques, they will almost always want some input.
And until they have signed off the designs, you really can do nothing about them changing colours.
Most of the time with clients like that it is easier just to show them how ghastly their changes are, rather than wasting your time trying to explain it in advance.
- Stugoo0
The only down fall to that is they might actually like the ghastly colours, then your up shit creek,
- ian0
Aye, skt, but I think we've all had an experience with 'this is your suggestions, see how bad they look' only for the client to love it and want to go with that option.
Its tough getting the balance right, getting the client to trust you but also for them to feel like they are a part of the process.

heh. Snap stugoo!

fair point. in that case, fuck em, take the money and leave them to it.

clients just like anyone else in the world have egos. some want to feel like they came up with the designs or at least had some hand in them. If you take on board their comments or at least seem to they will be appeased and have no reason to criticise it.
The trick is preempting this and leaving something really obvious out, or doing something obviously wrong, they can then point it out and then you change it, everyone's happy.
- skt0
And for websites always make the logo and text 2 sizes smaller than a final size you would be happy with.

Basically, it's a double edged sword.
They are paying you, so you should at least listen, humour them and try some of the stuff out. And then talk them out of it.
But on the other side - they are paying you because they CAN'T do the job themselves, so they should at least have the common sense to believe in and trust you.

I always do what I want then do what they want to show how fucking wrong they are. Now and again they are right. Remember the client will know his brand better than you. Other than that if they are real cunts, tell you account manager or PM to sort them out. Not your job, or at least it shouldnt be.
- slappy0
This is going to be part of their brand so you might need to humour them a little while they decide they have exhausted all avenues.
Just send them a list of reasons why the colour they are thinking about wont work. There are always plenty of reasons why the clients idea is shit, infact, I have never really had any really good client changes.
At the end of the day you have to give them what they want if they cant be swayed. Theres no point if having them pissed off and you pissed off, they may as well be happy with the service and you will get over it.

print yours and theirs out.
show them both side by side.
there always be only one winner.
if they pick theirs, then just take their money. it really is not worth bothering about. it happens.
a lot.
