sorry, behind all the swearing there was a real questions:
at what point is it justified for the client to tinker with colours, shapes and layout?
personally, i don't think there is justification; we're not designing for them - we're designing for their users. additionally, the design, style, layout or indeed any other matter should not be up for debate based upon a stake holders colour preference.
