I'm outta this thread, and I'll leave it with a quote from one of my favorite American spiritualists:
"I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching."

Fern: Cool article on Intelligent Design. More thoughts on that:

Antonelli: First, we know scientifically that all of time, matter and energy came into existance at once, from a singularity in the distant past. Scientists call this: The Big Bang. So, something outside of time, energy and matter caused this singularity to explode into specified information and everything else you and I know. The ancient Hebrews understood this. You don't seem to.
Secondly, true Biblical Christianity is nothing like the religions of the world and can't even be put in the category of "religion", as most people understand it. This is because it is the story of mankinds' fall out of fellowship with his creator and how we can't do anything to fix it. Hence, Christ living among us and dying in our place as a propitiation for our sin. So, with world religions you have a story of rituals and ceremonies in an attempt to appease a reluctant god - Do this, do that, attain this level, etc... In contrast, the message of the Bible is: You can't do it. You are dead in your sin nature. Only faith alone in the person of Christ alone will raise you from death to life. And this is a gift to be freely received, not earned.
You will not find a message even remotely close to this in the religions of the world. Humans don't invent a message like that, which goes so much against our performance-oriented human nature.
I was an agnostic until I was about 20. When I learned that Christianity is a free gift to be received which allows me to have a relationship with the God who relentlessly loves me... I was all in.

so you believe the big bang happened? and that Jesus was the cause of it. that's the implication i'm getting from you. just want to clarify...
- flagellum0
Specifically, yes.
But more generally, the point is that a purposive mind would be the logical inference from such data. Any other position is, in my estimation, untenable.
ta for now.

" Lemmy, I don't think you even know what you're trying to say. And I don't think anyone here takes you seriously "
taken seriosly on the internet?
what the fuck is wrong with you?
Exodus 21:1-4: "If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself."
Leviticus 19:20-22: "And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free. And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering. And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.
^ Those are STRAIGHT passages, not some bullshit interpertation...
Your "god" condones the practice of slavery over and over again...
Far more times than "he" condemns ass fucking...

"If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself."
Can I get an amen?

George Barna, president and founder of Barna Research Group, commented:
"While it may be alarming to discover that born again Christians are more likely than others to experience a divorce, that pattern has been in place for quite some time. Even more disturbing, perhaps, is that when those individuals experience a divorce many of them feel their community of faith provides rejection rather than support and healing. But the research also raises questions regarding the effectiveness of how churches minister to families. The ultimate responsibility for a marriage belongs to the husband and wife, but the high incidence of divorce within the Christian community challenges the idea that churches provide truly practical and life-changing support for marriages."
lol at the fundies...
sodomites provid a more stable family structure than you do.

99% of the time, the specific master you worship is dictated by your geographical location on earth.
flag, if you were born in Iran, Jesus Christ wouldn't be your savior, you'd be praying to Allah right now and giving countless reasons as to why he's the true god and not Christ or anyone else. Doesn't that say something to you?
It's all cultural influence. Its incredibly biased and subjective.
- mrdobolina0
I have said this to him before antonelli, he had some more hubbub he tried selling after that too.
- ********0
yeah, the response I usually hear for that is:
"Well, I would've have instinctively sought out Christ anyway and converted".
Yea, sure...
- incog0
Antonelli, I could say the same thing about atheism. Who's to say you weren't brainwashed too?
lemmy, we've already adressed the question of slavery. read ^^ there.
Interesting info about divorce rates. I've seen first-hand how churches can reject those who go through divorce, even in cases of spousal abuse. It's sickening.

Christianity: The belief that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

I was born right around San Francisco, so naturally I am a strict follower of Zoroastrianism.

Oooh you should be a writer!
- TheBlueOne0
*damn thread sucks you back in...
Look incog, the point that lemmy is making is not neccessarily about slavery per se, it's that you know it's kinda there in black and white in the Bible, a book, that Flagellum would argue is the literal word of god and 100% true through and through. Now these fundy types will pull selectively from the OLD Testament to justify something - usually something condemning something, but when you call them on something like this slavery quote they resort to the old "Well Jesus is the new covenant and changed the Old Testament deal"...oh, ok..but then why do you keep justifying yourself with the Old Testament then if there's a new deal.
I think that's lemmy's point...
