What a small world we live in.
One of our sales people have been trying to land a huge-ass account for the past month or so.
And so this morning, I decided to put one of my two vintage Vespas up for sale. About an hour later, this guy calls and says he's interested - "when can I see it?".
I meet up with him, he looks at it and lowballs me with 75% of asking price. "No way" I say. He turns to me and says "Well, if you change your mind" and hands over his business card.
"Wait!"
Turns out this guy is the VP of the company we've been trying to get!!
He obviously has no idea who I am at this point, so I go "I run xxx, I'm sure you know about us. Why don't you take the Vespa - here, it's yours! Take it! Free! And then give me a call tomorrow. I'm sure you know what I want to hear!"
He goes "oooh.. o-okay." We exchange two ice cold nods and I head off.
And now here I am.
*gulp*
Now lets just hope he calls!!

sounds good.....kinda....
this is what I would've done, listen Vespa loving VP, here's the deal, I am joxie and I do.... (whatever is that you do, I think it's a secks site no?). Let's meet tomorrow, you bring what I need and I'll bring what you need. We exchange signatures and you get the vespa plus our services.
That way, you get the account before giving up the Vespa and sit by the phone...
But I'm sure you're gonna get that call.... but if not, take the cost of the Vespa from the sales rep...

a lot of video games in the last 10 years used "bribes" as part of the main focus of the game.
maybe all those hours your were playing GTA and Bully and Scarface...etc...gave you subliminal suggestions to bribe someone in your real life...
- madirish0
you better!!
:)

It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

LOL yeah, I wish the "bribe" was as cool as they are in the video games... this was more in good fun.
I knew I should've worn a black suit...

(Aug 9 07, 05:43)Well, it was either selling it cheap or taking it to the dump so it wasn't as ice cold as it sounds. It didn't even run and needed new parts x3 the value of the whole thing :)
- jox0
Hahah emecks - I was fiddling with it this morning, too!!

as funny as this is, and as funny as it would have been to see the awkwardness of the transaction ;) , this sort of situation happens *all* the time in corporate decision making for contracts.
