Yeah! It's fantastic.
The Sound on Sound site has some great instructional stuff on Reason:
Also, the Propellerhead site has some great tutorials, as well as free downloads and some great music done with Reason:
So get started!

does anyone knows if you need to have midi cable connected for the oxygen 8 or is the usb connection good enought? it finds it. just dont get any sounds out of it.
the keyboard (oxygen 8) works in garage band.
- USB is fine, go to reasons preferences and make sure you selected in the preferences.Meeklo
- if when you move knobs/faders or keys you get a light reacting on the screen then the keyboard is fine, you need to assign it to your sinthMeeklo
- assign it to your synth.
hope that helps akrok!Meeklo - thanksakrokdesign

i recently bought a new laptop with Vista 64bit OS, now my Oxygen 8 controller does not work, M-audio have not created the criver for 64bit yet.
Does anybody know how else i could connnect my controller? Could it be done via MIDI..if so how would that be done? I dont have 'midi in' on my computer?

Remember a few things with reason. It is maily a program which provides synths and other outboard gear (instruments) which makes it great for creating electronice music; however, there is one thing that Reason is not really built to do and that is record live. For instance I use Reason to create my instrumentals (Pecussion, Strings, polysynths and such) then I route it through a multtrack program like protools using Rewire. And do recording of vocals through there. I can bring my whole reason project through one or many tracks of protools using Rewire. All that being said I love Reason I start most of my projects with it. You can do vocals in Reson, but from all I know you would have to use on of the samplers, and that's a bit silly, unless your creating a track with minimal vocals.
- i am doin' electronic music...mainly house. pro tool, fancy stuff. cool. :-)akrokdesign

I was a hard core Reason user until trying out and not much later purchasing Logic Studio. Reason is a phenomenal application, but there could be a pretty mean learning curve attached to it, especially coming from Garage Band, whereas Logic has a similar interface - plus a whole lot of extra sh*t - to those familiar with GB. I'd recommend giving both a try before buying.
- i tried logic, its pretty hard to.akrokdesign
- My personal experience with Logic took me less than an hour to learn. And I know it pretty well after only owning it for about a month now.MediaPimp

Reason to replace GarageBand? Why wouldn't you go with Ableton Live?
- Or Logicninjasavant

reason is so freaking complicated. I tried using it a couple times but didn't know where to start. this from a guy who's used most 3d programs.
- sure is but I already made my move so, I better learn. heh.akrokdesign
- akrokdesign0
i got it to work. pretty awesome. when I got some tunes made, I will post them. :-)

If you start with one of their demo songs and break it apart you can figure it out pretty quick. make sure you hit the tab key too!

I've used Reason since it's initial launch years ago. I found it to be very easy and straight forward to learn and use. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it.

Ive used logic for years, the effects are awesome, and work amazing with synth racks etc, id still use reason, but feel logic is way more pro!
one cool thing about reason, is where you can turn the rack around and mess around with the software on screen, crazy shit

2 cents.... Ableton Live is from my experience is killer. Obviously more targeted to live performances, but it's also a hot DAW.
- akrokdesign0
ok, this is not a reason link, more a music in general. anyway, thought you might like it. Future Music - IN THE STUDIO

the quality of your tunes has nothing to do with the software.
You use what you know, if you are good, you can be good on a tracker running on d.o.s. for all I care. You may have access to peter gabriel's studio and still make amateur tunes.my 2 cents

meeklo makes a great point. it's the wizard not the wand

meeklo, you made me remember my 8 bit samples bass-drum, snare/clap, hi-hat with a deep bass layed in FastTracker2. hah. there was some mean punch in that bass drum. harder then that fancy 16-bits. heh.
- yes!
and is you used scream tracker all that was in MONO! ;)Meeklo - hah...yeah.akrokdesign
- yes!
