Same time tomorrow?
We can discuss the whole east coast vs west coast vs europe early/mid 80's thrash metal and the importance of Hanoi Rocks in the LA glam scene, ..
- madirish0
YES.

All those guitar players suck.
Everybody knows:
Prince is the best guitar player.
Jeff Beck is next best.
and
Mick Taylor is next best after that.
Metal is so fucking lame. Guys in metal bands don't even like chicks. They're such a bunch of homos.

the most talented and highly trained guitarists fall mainly in the Metal genre.
That is a fact.
- AndyRoss0
No, the most highly trained guitarists play classical.
But they're boring homos too. They just don't wear nylons and makeup, like the metal homos.

your colors are showing

When I was in High School(93) I thought Voivod was the best metal band.

(May 10 07, 18:48)So you're like what? An Arcade Fire fan? gooA Replacements fan? Can't let go of your "Doors" T-shirt collection? One of those guys that argued The Edge was better than Eddie Van Halen? I'm just trying to suss out the angle here...
But I agree about Jeff Beck. He's in my personal top 3. He's one of those rare artists, like Iggy Pop who just get better and more interesting the older they get..Prince...maybe...but Mick Taylor??

(May 10 07, 18:48)are you this blatantly seperatist about all topics?
also, why the very clear homophobic beliefs? i know there were many bands in the 80's who were androgenous in display (clearly not just a Metal thing), but what has that got to do with the topic at hand? does that make them less of a player?

I was just trying to comment sardonically on the clueless homoerotocism of the whole contemporary metal enterprise, and the enraptured absorbed in worship for their rebellious pagan trouser gods they're oblivious to the fact that there are no women in the club.
I mean, a metal concert is more likely to be utterly exclusively male than an old-fashioned gay bar. And the reasons for that have to do with the homoerotic nature of the music, lyrics, theatrical staging, costumes, myth/God/worship, and narrowness of theme on hand.
But, the typical metal-head, in his lack of astuteness, ascribes the lack of women at a show to "that's just fucked up stupid bitches don't know a good thing."
- madirish0
o........k......
well, you are clearly coming to it from a pretty different pov, but i totally respect it. outside of the fact this may be the first time i have witnessed an elitest-academia prose for commenting on metal, i think the culture is pretty aware of the insights you put forth; especially of the 80's era.
now with that said, i am still a little fuzzy as to why the term 'homo' needed to be used, as you clearly were referencing it as a negative joust and not a sardonic play.
or did i miss something?
- AndyRoss0
Yes, you missed something.
- madirish0
cool. wait, what was it that i missed again?
- TheBlueOne0
AndyRoss, my man, bro...in your first post you point to Prince as deserving worship and then you lay out some decades old, Spin Magazine circa 1991 dissertation against metal as being like "homo-erotic".
Whatever you are taking please send me some. You're like a bad trip.
You know sometimes a trouser snake is just a trouser snake and sometimes a guitar is just a guitar. You've got problems of a vast and broad fruedian nature...

AndyRoss my man, You my friend are a douche. One of the highest order, and one who doens't know what the f--k he is talking about.
I like how you try to tell someone who has been playing for 25 years and who has taught people whats up. And don't say I am a biased Metal "homo" because I play and listen to everything.
But Beck, Prince and Mick, jeez you are clueless. Uh yeah, they could play. But not in the way we are discussing.

perhaps mr.ross is confusing bands like warrant and winger with metal bands?
no one's thinking king diamond's make-up is erotic.
no one's sexed-up during a slayer set.
- TheBlueOne0
well, he was right about Beck..I'll give him that,,I mean the first couple of Jeff Beck group discs were the blueprint for Led Zep, which, as we know, unleashed the Trouser Snake as Artistic Beast upon the world...
I mean, what would rock be without Heavy Metal? Pretty fucking boring. Metal is at least an axe to grind against for other forms of rock, and a source for sonic chaos...and what rock musician doesn't secretly want to just bash out Black Sabbath style riffs and get paid for it??

(May 11 07, 06:56)See..interesting conundrum..where do we draw the metal/not-metal distinction with the whole LA glam thing? I mean were the Crüe metal? GnR? LA Guns?
What about Van Halen - metal or not metal?
