None of them play as fast or as well as he does.
Jack White? from the White Stripes?
Daro
(May 10 07, 10:12)none of them play as well?? honestly, we are done.
yes, Jack from the stripes. "He was ranked #17 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jac…funny, i don't see Yngwie anywhere on that list....

lets not forget Magyver

Meg White can't drum for anything.

Jaline
(May 10 07, 10:18)Agreed.
- Jaline0
but we're not really talking about her...so....yeah.

(May 10 07, 10:17)Um, madirish, you really can't quote Rolling Stone as a reputable source for anything musical after say 1972. Especially anything having to do with guitarists. I mean they put fucking John Mayer on that cover. They wouldn't know good music if it fucked them up the ass.
- Jaline0
well there's a difference between great music and great guitar skills.
- madirish0
regardless blue, for the sake of discussion, we can attest that the majority of the people can play the guitar, no?
my point was 2-fold;
- that the 4 dudes i listed are better, IMO than Yngwie and
- Yngwie is not the greatest guitar player ever, which you agree with.i do agree that RS is weak at times, but actually would not fully back the statement you cannot look to them for anything after '72.... even taking into account a stretch +/- a decade as your poetic license allowed for... ;)

(May 10 07, 10:21)totally true, but true zen comes when the twain meet. I'm just saying Rolling STone put John Mayer on their cover with the "Greatest Rock Guitarists" issue. I mean..John writes a neat pop song and he's a decent player.. but...but..c'mon...
- madirish0
haha- i had no idea he was on the cover of 100 best.
that is weak.

(May 10 07, 10:24)Hmmm..Hammet? Not sure...I always thought he kinda wanked. So I'd put Yngwie over Hammet. Page is untouchable, one of the top five...who else was on your list?
- TheBlueOne0
God..I haven't geeked on 80's metal (who's better guitarist/vocalist/drummer or who was a poser and who wasn't..hahaha) in a long time..
- TheBlueOne0
And do people argue about that anymore? "Gee that guy in My Chemical Romance is way better than the guy in Radiohead!" I mean, do those conversations happen anymore - probably not because all these guys today suck..just downtuned E strings, effects pedals and power chords...suckas everyone of them..nobody has a particular style anymore..I mean like I can tell Yngwie from Van Halen by hearing two fucking notes..I couldn't tell you who any of these young rock/metal guys are from two notes...
- Jaline0
I do have those conversations sometimes, actually. these days it's more about the unique voice. If you have that, then it's easier for people to identify you. I'm pretty sure older artists were identified more easily this way too. But you're probably right about the music sounding similar. Although..I feel like it was always this way.

there are some good players now, but they are all in the metal and blues / jazz genres

(May 10 07, 10:46)Yeah, tons of "good" players I agree...but who out there has a singular voice on the instrument? I mean the guy you hear two notes form and know who it is? I mean with players in the under 35 crowd...
- TheBlueOne0
..I just got that the guy who's photo set that is has the handle "umlaut555"...heh...almost a good name for a band...
