Anyone reading this? Thinking about picking up the first few issues.

    • i never read a single Vertigo ever, nor have i ever held an issue in my hands..e-pill
    • Really? Wow. Fables is probabl my favorite comics, well that and The Goon. (not Vertigo).discoduro
    • Any reason why? Just curious.discoduro
    • when verticgo came out it was dc's way of taking the readers of valiant and dark horse..e-pill
    • they just didnt have that one thing that the other books had.. was not well written..e-pill
    • which i hear they have done very well, it was grabing the reader.. the characters..e-pill
    • they never grabbed at me like lets say Aliens vs Predator has.. or Rai or Shadowman..e-pill
    • now all those titles each were very well written and the art was amaazing...e-pill
    • DC Vertigo enters the fold to try to grab those readers since marvel was mostly cannon..e-pill
    • and marvel had at the time New Universe that didnt do well but had the best stories..e-pill
    • fucking love vertigo. they've put out some great storiesscarabin
    • so it was like the reader was immature reading Image titles like Youngblood..e-pill
    • or you had the readers reading books like Solar and Harbinger who were slightly ..e-pill
    • older and more mature or just more defined in who the are individually as a person..e-pill
    • vertigo books never to me had that long lasting hero aspect or villain aspect of any other..e-pill
    • its like being back in high school with drama students.. who never played dodgeball..e-pill
    • thats what Vertigo books to me relates to.. that demographic just isnt me..e-pill
    • ill read DPI or Nightmask any day over any Vertigo title.. and those books sucked!!!e-pill
    • the other thing is even though i am so into comics i can not name a single vertigo title.e-pill
    • even though i spend so much time in comic history that stuff i am oblivious to..e-pill
    • Thanks, makes sense. I read all that old Valiant stuff too and curiously enough never touched a ...discoduro
    • Vertigo book untill I was an adult. Fables being the book that really pulled me back into comics.discoduro
    • no actually i only used the Valiant books as a reference b/c i know you are also a fan.e-pill
    • usually when asked about why i never read vertigo books is by hardcore dc fanatics..e-pill
    • you are a hardcore Valiant Acclaim fanatic and i used that in my argument.. haha!!!e-pill
    • ahdiscoduro
    • This book is pretty sweet Lemires pacing and story telling skills are tops and while he's no jim lee or frank queitly his art is quirky like most vertigo books and compliments the story I suggest itTNDAP
    • LOL e-pill you're so far of the mark with your 'Vertigo trying to steal away readers" comment.ximeraLabs
    • But fair enough if its not your bag its not your bag.ximeraLabs

A recommendation to all to pick up Wonder Woman: Dead Earth.

    https://www.dccomics.com/comics/…

Some genuinely wonderful artwork and a story that is in parts surprising, relentless, and brutal. Wonder Woman is a book that I have never spent a lot of time reading, but this really is something else and pulls the character in directions that I have never seen before.

    Issue #3 is a jaw-dropper.

This was one of my all time favourite books from the early 90s

    • ah the glory days of Image.egosmoke
    • hated them. no one over there drew feet. everyone's legs disappeared into fog at the ankles.zenmasterfoo
    • You can thank Rob Liefeld for that. Hack.discoduro
    • Liefeld is and always has been a a hack. And youre right, cant draw feet for shit.egosmoke
    • LOL so true.ximeraLabs
    • i have this.. 3 copies..e-pill

    • fantastic four movies are supposed to be re-made as they failed..e-pill
    • so technically those movies never happened..e-pill
    • if he's cap i will not watch that movie evarkona
    • no no nodiscoduro
    • horrible idea + i hate when actors double dip superhero movies.404

dunno how i missed this thread. comics were integral to my life growing up / how i learned to draw.

    faves of my era (90s):

    - age of apocalypse
    - kevin smith's daredevil arc
    - the all too brief wildc.a.t.s. reboot with travis charest
    - marvel onslaught saga (would make a perfect movie series too)

was always a huge fan of joe madureira

I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and I found couple of issues of Conan the Barbarian(in turkish) that belonged to my cousin's husband and instantly got pulled in. A while later they were moving away so he dumped two huge boxes full of Conans on me that started my first and only comic fanhood.
Conan is more than simple sword and sorcery comics. Robert E. Howard created stories that were the first of its kind in modern fantasy world genre. The parallels between his fictional world and the actual history makes these stories rather fascinating. Makes me think that there was a period of history that is hidden from our knowledge where Atlantis and lost continents had existed

“Although it is possible to trace many of [Tolkien’s] story themes and plot devices to their origins in northern mythology and literature, he certainly does not intend to hint that his readers should superimpose a map of ancient Europe and the Near East over his imaginary chart of Middle-earth, as one is supposed to do, for example, with the world of the Hyborian Age wherein the fantasy writer Robert E. Howard laid the scene for his swashbuckling stories of Conan of Cimmeria... which, by the way, Tolkien has read and said he rather enjoys...”
    — Lin Carter, Tolkien: A Look Behind the Lord of the Rings

Stories got published couple of years before LOTR came out and some think it might have inspired Tolkien when he was creating his fantasy world.

First Look: IRON MAN's Brand New Armor
    http://www.newsarama.com/comics/…

    • That's pretty bad ass. I really like the design.discoduro
    • as a robot designer, i really dont like the design. it feels too skin-tight.o_O
    • it looks like spandex with lights on it. if its armour, it should protect. not be sleek.o_O
    • everyone one knows usually the sleek beautiful things in life are the most breakable.o_O
    • this armour seems too preety for me and my tastes. yes its not war-machine clearly..buto_O
    • so like what is it, metal-mesh, something like the fiber he made for the spidey-armour?o_O
    • or lets push it further, is it fiber similar to the venom symbiote living skin..which FF4 remade.o_O
    • i mean if reed richards can make a mask for spiderman that mimics venom... i guess..o_O
    • this version of ironman might be ok.. but it looks like its thinner than a condom..o_O
    • im sorry but that doesnt scream protection for me.. not that i care too much for tony..o_O
    • i give it a minus -3 of 10.. it feels too similar to other charcters outfits,o_O
    • doesnt sell the idea of ironman. and where is the protection??o_O
    • technology may be tiny but armour certainly is not.o_O
    • That's actually what i like about it, it's streamlined.discoduro
    • Please draw your own model and we'll compare the two ;)
Also, nano tech would allow for the more streamlined look and maintain any durability issues you seem to be having.
      EightyDeuce
    • maintain any durability issues you seem to be having.EightyDeuce
    • @EightyDeuce... here is my portfolio - http://www.krop.com/…o_O
    • my armour sketch concepts feel powerful while iron man to the left feels like tissue paper.o_O
    • also this isnt about "tech" or "nano tech" its about the armour.o_O
    • i await to hear your comparisons.o_O
    • Looks quite nice to me.juhls
    • looks quite cool, which is generally a plus for a fictional movie character in a massively ridiculous franchisekelpie
    • Those look like mechs for one and I'm sorry but your bots look like they'd be heavy and slow.EightyDeuce
    • Not to say that they dont look good, just not very functional.EightyDeuce

I bought the complete set of Shatter for my father the other day simply because it is the first comic book rendered on a computer, using macdraw no less. It all arrived mint / near mint. $35 total shipped. I'm sure we'll never read them now.

    -

In 1985, illustrator Mike Saenz created the artwork for “Shatter” (based on a story by Peter Gillis) entirely on a Macintosh Plus, which had an 8 MHz CPU, 4 MB of RAM.

    • Is it about a guy who shat himself?SlashPeckham
    • so far no, unless it's part of the subplot that i have missedimbecile

    Recently bought this:

The rise and rise of Judge Death and his mob. Very well written and creates a genuine sense of dread (no pun intended) and uneasiness thanks in part to the painterly art style. I already knew about Deadworld from the Dredd / Anderson stories and the Young Death storyline but this expands it in all kinds of interesting directions and turns into a proper horror story. Highly recommended.

    • will look into this
      +1
