eric-
what is cost of living where you are?
its hard to explain how much cost of living here is as its very different for everyone.
what i mean is each person will earn a very different salary and live a very different lifestyle.
nyc has many ooportunities to offer that a smaller populated city will not.
as dino said nyc is open 24 hours 7 days a week, meaning if you need anything, well anything is available to you aat any given time.
i doubt you can afford such luxuries where you live or else nyc would not be what it is today.
you really need to make aa trip here yourself and live its nature for yourself.
as a new yorker, i love it here, i have traveled around the world and worked in asia, europe, and america and i can say that each place is very different but for value of living if you dont make a strong salary here your cost of living will be for nothing.
you may be better where you are, but reallyy you will never know til you try.
also nyc is extremely competitive, and if you want to make it here that competition will keep you in check, and make you stronger than ever, so its always a win win situation if you can manage the lifestyle and make it work for you.
good luck!!

e-pill let me refute your points
first- the cost of living has nothing to do with your income, it has every thing to do with the cost of goods and services in a given area.
"what i mean is each person will earn a very different salary and live a very different lifestyle."
Thank You captain obvious.
Second- Oppurtunities are everywhere, they are just harder to find in cities without the benefits of huge populations and mega corporations. I would even venture to say that only a supreme entrepreneurial spirit is able to be successful in a smaller city, because there oppurtunities are more obscure and one has to be more focused.
Third- Competition is an internal device, either you have it or you don't. moving to NyC, or any major city, is not going to breed a competitive person.
Fourth- what is with the obscene name calling from you and jevad? one would think that the creative community of NyC would come up with more intelligent and constructive critisicims of my post.

if you like peope who think they are more important than they really are...then yes move to the NyC
ps
no one really like paying alot of money to live with rats in a shoebox, they do it because they heard it makes them cooler

NYC is the shit. I'd live there if I could afford it, seriously. plus I have family obligations that keep me tied to this dusty ass desert.
But that's why I'm drinking now! Happy Saturday and Irish fuckin whatever...

i've been here since october and fucking love it. i'm going to agree with everyone else on saying you either need it/love it or you won't like it. i would definitely recomment a trip and checking out all areas to find out what you like. don't believe the hype. everyone's going to say their neighborhood is the shit because thats how everyone acts up here anyway - always repping what they do and who they are.
e-pill's right. it offers endless opportunity in an extremely competitive environment. to say you can find the same type of opportunity in the midwest or in smaller cities is totally false. i find new ones every day.
- MLP0
... also being around top notch people in whatever business you're in is probably the most inspiring part about the city. everyone you meet is doing something interesting. you have to be working hard to stay afloat and that breeds a lot of interesting things. definitely can't say that about anywhere i lived in the midwest.

(Mar 16 07, 07:20)I don't think JC has anything to do with NYC - just that it's near by via the Path / tunnel and cheaper in the rent department.
The comment I made was sort of a joke.
Last week my wife and I were walking down Grove to the Path and this other couple passed by us and muttered something about How JC is "turning into fuckin' Williamsburg". We got a good laugh out of that.

yeah i think the only reason you put up with all the hassle is bc you can't see yourself anywhere else.
