you are a crackpot...
Why would the rules about beating your slaves to death exist if the slaves weren't beaten, Ned?
- flagellum0
there are also rules about beating your children.

having chlidren = o.k.
having slaves = not o.k.
the bible didn't get that one right, and that's just the way it is.
sorry.

Flagellum,
Is condoning slavery moral in the case(s) you stated? You do agree that the Bible refers to slaves as being personal property don't you?

I don't, never have nor ever will condone or excuse slavery of any kind. flagellum knows his Old Testament better than I do, but what I do know is that a lot of things from the Old Testament law sound crazy. They were harsh rules for a harsh world. The new law of Jesus was the fulfillment, rather than contradiction, of the old law of Moses. The law was rigid and complicated because it had to be. It's main purpose was to point the way to Christ, to a perfect law.
For those of you who don't know or have forgotten, Christians were at the forefront of the abolition movement, both in America and Britain. See John Newton, William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, etc. etc...
As far as modern-day slavery, I've mentioned here before that I am not a right wing puppet like many people assume all Christians to be. I consider myself to be fairly liberal in my views on environmental laws & reforms as well as foreign policy. I despise the use of sweatshops and the oppression of any person or groups of people.

for TheBlueOne: nowhere in the Bible does God condemn those who speak their mind, even those who let God know when they are angry with him. What he doesn't abide is disrespect. I imagine you might feel the same if you authored at least one universe.
I know my words are probably falling on deaf ears. I once thought it was all horse shit too, until God dragged me into his kingdom kicking & screaming.

a perfect law... see this is why I can't buy what christians are selling.

(Feb 27 07, 15:13)I know it seems dim. But the idea is that God, being perfect, authored the law. It was merely communicated through humans, not authored by them.
- mrdobolina0
nah it was an early form of governance... pretty simple really.

" For those of you who don't know or have forgotten, Christians were at the forefront of the abolition movement, both in America and Britain. See John Newton, William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, etc. etc... "
^ and that?
yea, many abolitionists were from the clergy.
but they were a tiny minority...
southern ministers used the bible to justify slavery, time and time again.
it's just plain wrong.

(Feb 27 07, 16:15)wrong!
saw a bbc doc 'bout the creative explosion 35,000 years ago...
seems that god may be THEE idea.
that is, our ancestors (the fist to make pictures) were inspired to paint those french caves through journeys into the spirt world.
...aside from animals they didnt hunt, certain patterns were painted as well.
these patters are standard "dot" types that all humans hallucinate while in a "trance" state.
the fire of humanity may have been sparked by some old, high shaman in france.
heady shit.

The perfect law is the law of change. It's a gift on the street and is yours once you've paid.
