Brewed three batch's before one fantastic one ok one fuckin disgusting. All same recipe and in hte same way its a tempromental fucker though. Nothing like pouring your first pint with the boys and knowing you made it yourself though! Going to try Alcoholic Ginger beer next mmmm.

nice! are you in the states? would be easier to brew in the cold i guess - its always too hot here in summer...(melbourne)

i just bottled up a batch of pilsner. it'll be ready in two more weeks and all signs point to it being one of my best efforts. i can hardly wait.
if you're new to brewing, i recommend:

I'm on v3.x - can't get homebrew to work.
- blaw0
what kind of problems are you having, humanmale?
one of the most common errors folks make is add too much water. no matter what volume the recipe calls for (ie: "top up to a total volume of 5 gallons"), always measure the specific gravity and add only enough water to reach the starting measurement.
i always end up with less volume than stated in the recipe.
- HumanMale0
Nah, it's more to do with the firmware. v3.x upwards doesn't let you install homebrew without downgrading first.
;)

haha, humanmale.
this thread reminded me of a conversation i had with a guy at a little brewry in northern virginia.
him: "do you homebrew?"
me: "nah. anheuser busch has a multi-million dollar annual budget and they can't make a decent beer. i'm not so arrogant as to think i'll do better in my kitchen."
him: "if you like beer, good beer, then you HAVE to brew your own. you'll be amazed at the results."
the dude was on target. some of the best beer i've tasted was brewed by ordinary folks at their house.

buttwiper isn't the bar to hold yourself up to

I've done it in the past. Last batch about 3 months ago. Still have a few left. Not bad, just hate how I can't get it carbonated too well.
- blaw0
instead of using corn sugar when bottling i use 1-1/2 cups of dried malt extract diluted in a pint water.
seems to carbonate better and adds a bit to the flavor of the beer.

I brew beer. Always wanted to link up with someone who wanted to ditch this and start a brewery.

my sister works at a u-brew beer place so ive always got the silver bullit homebrew cans kicking around.
my mom owns a wine ubrew so im pretty much set.
i love it.

i've been brewing for a few years...it's awesome. maybe that's what i'll do this weekend...a fat tire clone.
- sherman0
Mmm beer
Do you guys have names for your beer or labels?
- -sputnik-0
not yet...we brew different types each time but when we start making a few consistently, then it might be time for naming/labeling.
i think that the biggest problem ppl have (which results in skunky beer) is poor sterilization. once the bacteria gets in there, you're done. keeping things really clean/sterilized and working fast is the key.

this weekend i tried my first batch — an india pale ale. it's really drinkable! only been bottled for 2 weeks, another month and i think it will be great...
