not at all.
he's just saying that designer sites lack all the hoppla from a few years ago.

seems to me once flash became more of a language intensive app, more people made the natural transition to motion graphiucs.
- onewhoslaps0
once it became more functional you mean???
integration xml, etc....
- gabe0
i don't think it has to do with flash becoming a language intensive app, i think it's more the natural progression for a talented animator to move into a field that allows them to better utilize and develop their skills

i still get jollies from making a nice xml menu

haven't read the rest of the thread, but I think peeps either got together and formulated studios together, or got my work by deciding to spend less time on NT :)
Plus more dollars have been poured into the internet industry by companies, so seeing companies like go alot more interactive a querky raise more eyebrows

wow gabe - agreed....im trying to get my hands on more motion projects as im improving in my maya and AE skills - but the connection between motion and interactivity is still very exctiing to me...i want to see more shit thats more blown out (remember billyharveymusic?). seems like interactive is getting dull while motion is just firing right now

My FWA articles... i wrote an article on the FWA on exactly that subject... check it out... http://www.thefwa.com/?app=artic…
It is an issue, designers, developers, get your asses in gear and show us what you got! As a producer i am always looking out for killer sites and potential talent to hire. I definitely have noticed a decline in the personal site quality.

i think part of the rise in commercial sites is the submission fee that the fwa charges now. it's not huge, but it probably skims off the low lying fruit.

to a previous poster, what's wrong with AS3 and why would it drive so many people away from flash?
- monNom0
Let's not forget that 2000-2003 the economy was in the dumps, there were a lot of designers out of work (who therefore had a bunch of time on their hands, and nothing better to do with that time than show off)
There's no lack of talent coming up, it's just more jobs are picking that talent up. Combine that with the seasoned pros doing one-pagers and the up-n-comers seeing that as a benchmark for success, so they replicate it.
If the industry falters again, I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgance of wizz-bang flash sites.

please explain this one page folio you speak of?
- gabe0
monNom, there's most definitely a lack of talent out there right now—granted our definition of "talent" might differ greatly...
i wish i could offer up an explanation as to why there's a shortage of adequate talent, but nevertheless there most certainly is!
- Ramanisky20
alot of 5th rate wanna-be designers have flooded the market

the short answer is that back in the day FWA didn't charge money to submit a site, so who is really going to pay for their own portfolio to be featured when they know it will be featured in the NTB, K10K, etc. for free if it's any good.
also, as you can see FWA has a ton of editorial content from a lot industry folk which I'm sure they feel obligated to reimburse for their time and effort.
for me, FWA is a great resource to browse and get ideas for client work. it's always good to know what the competition is doing. the sort feature is super nice. props to the team.
