I haven't had any issues with software at all.. and I run some obscure stuff. Only issue you might have is trying to run very old software on a 64-bit Vista OS. I find it amusing that everyone who tells me Vista won't run shit has yet to use it themselves.

hopefully they've cleaned up their multi-user act. one of my major problems with XP (and prior) is the shitty handling of multiple users and the fact that you have to be an admin to run a lot of apps, which is just plain retardo. maybe this is a result of bad app developers and not ms?

i finally installed XP on my MBP, I only use it to do 3d stuff.
i wouldn't install Vista because it's too heavy and takes up too much disk space. i only wish more companies offers 3d programs for mac.

all these dudes on their shiny mbp's talking shit and adobe apps run like shit on them.
- mrdobolina0
I just see it as an incredible double standard. You all will have to buy CS3 so that it will run correctly on your intel-based macs. but oh the horror at old software not running on vista.
even though the old software actually will run on vista.
I couldnt give a shit either way but yall are some fanboys.

my spanking shiny mbp runs adobe really nicely. of course, i have been using cs1, instead of cs2. now i got cs 3 running, it's so nice and smooth.
in any case, either vista or os x, if given to me, i know what to do. it's just a tool after all. for now, my preference is os x.

right on tkmeister. i work in visual studio quite a bit and the pc runs that like a badass. the second i open photoshop (or just about anything else) on the pc, i break out in hives.
i won't crap all over the vista until i actually get upgraded, but there is something to be said for 10 years of being a dissatisfied pc user. this might be a "great leap forward", but based on past experience i don't think it's out of line to expect a bloated pig.

(Jan 30 07, 13:45)tkmeister, a lot of the most used 3d programs have mac option. Only exception is MAX or Softimage.
Was there a specific program you were thinking of?
Maya, Cinema 4D, and Lightwave all have Mac versions available or have both PC/MAC install CDs in the box.
The thing I hate is most 3d plugins are PC only. :(
- Mimio0
Just give me a fast and stable OS. I dont need the icons bigger or in png scalability.
- mbr0
yup. Kill the damn icons!
- tkmeister0
orkman,
i used max, rhino 3d and formz. right now, i got rhino 3d on my machine. it's just an easy program to use and enough for what i do.maybe i will look at cinema 4d and lightwave. maya is more than what i need. i used cinema4d super long time ago but can't really recal what the UI was like.
- orkman0
I hear you tkmeister, I have used Lightwave for years and it's great for me, but seems to have fallen behind the pack.
We have MAX where I work and it rocks although it's 'spensive.
Cinema 4D really seems to be gaining a broader user base and has some nice features. I guess it boils down to whatever is best for your needs.
- tkmeister0
i do more of architectural, product and furniture modeling. i guess lightwave would be good for that, i assume?

I got a macbook with intent to run Vista on it and installed the beta through parallels a few months ago, alongside XP. I really hoped it would be an improvement over XP, stealing what it had to from OSX.
First thing that attacks you when running vista is Windows Defender, whatever it is. First thought: Why does my computer try to scare me with such feature? Are we on war with viruses or something?
I played with Vista for a few days and threw it out in disappointment. I really hoped it would be a step up from XP.
I am now using OSX, running XP whenever needed (and it is needed quite often). Vista turns out to be Windows 2000 rebadged again, heavier, uglier (as if XP wasn't) and pointless. The only thing that really drew my attention using Vista were the new fonts. What don't understand, why Windows has no real competition (I am not counting OSX, because it is limited to proprietary hardware).
There is enormous money in it, why doesn't someone put a couple of hundred millions into defining a linux distro? All you have to do is follow Apple: instead of multiplying options (like all opensource projects tend to do), define and limit them. That's what Apple is doing - a variant of unix with a very defined user interface. Not endlessly extendable, but precisely limited. Is it really this hard to do?:)
Now all I want is Apple to steal a few good features from XP, like cut and paste, more responsible UI (my XP feels faster on my macbook than OSX does), more than a corner to resize windows, and I few more I forgot now.

i think i'm switchin' over to Mac my next purchase...
... it'll work as my main machine... and I'll have my tasty PC sitting near by to handle everything third party that I don't feel like disturbing my luscious mac with...
... am I switching sides?...
... I think so.
... don't hate me... it's just - well... microSloth didn't give me a reason this time around and it's time to upgrade.
If someone can talk me out of it - I'm willing to listen... it's just I don't think xp 64 will do me much good either...
yep...
... think i'm gonna get a mac...
yep.
