my boss paid a guy she knows to build us a pair of custom desks with "zebra wood" on the top...whatever that means.
they sound really cool, but the dude is totally lagging on building them. definitely posting pics of the desk along with the rest of the studio when they arrive.

i'm at school so i can't post a pic of my desk at home, but i have two of these. i put the one higher than the other, the other semi-underneath the higher one. it looks cool but hard as fuck to work on. it's all off hieght wise and such. gotta figure something else out.

Those are nice and simple. I tried to order a jerker before and it said it was like $350 s/h to Illinois. That must have been an error or something.

I am currently designing my desk.
It will be in 4 sections, completly foldaway/down into the wall (section by section) and have a built in light box.

I found a teachers desk from the 70's - solid wood with three drawers & brushed aluminum legs - I got it for $5 at goodwill, had to sand like a 1/4 inch off the top because it was so nasty and stained it walnut, came out really good. Don't have a photo here, I'll post it later

I got my desk from Anthro, I believe the site is http://www.anthro.com.
Forget which model it is, but I got it during one of their sales. Nice strong desk, well designed, even though its just covered with my comp and junk. Currently holds 2 21" CRT's and 2 fully loaded boxes on separately purchased side CPU holders. Was still kinda expensive but worth it, wish I had gone with a bigger size though...

When I moved into my place there was a divider / built-in desk. I ripped that out of the wall, spackled up the hole, painted and used the refuse wood to build my own desk. this thing is really big and it's all me:

the one side of the desk rests atop a Mesa 50/50 studio preamp + Mesa poweramp + a speakerbox. The right side rests atop a square leg I built from the refuse wood.
Yes, that is a PowerGlove hanging in the background.

Sounds good radar. I am thinking of just finding a simple desk at a second hand store and painting it black or refinishing it.

Does that IKEA shipping info I posted seem normal?I am in Illinois and the nearest IKEA is in Chicago 5 hrs away.

That doesn't sound right seed. But then again, one time of was trying to order castors from Ikea and I think the shipping came out to like $35.
For those that don't know castors are the little wheels that you can put on the bottom of furniture so you can push it around. The price was for a pack of wheels 2 inches in diameter for 6 wheels!
In the end I just had a friend who was going to Ikea which is about an hour car ride away to pick them up for me.

(Jan 23 07, 08:38)not sure. but ikea's whole thing is to stay away from shipping and make people come to the store and purchase from them. it cuts down on their cost.
that seems super high, but it may be a tactic of theirs to overcharge shipping so people don't order from the site, and only come in.
who knows.
