BlueONe: As i've stated, I don't advocate a theocracy.

Thank you for being honest, Mimio!!!
There is nothing wrong w/your belief either!!! You're entitled to it and you should fight for it!
Just keep in mind that you're outnumbered by the 'delusional and irrational' as you call it. :)
Oh - and calling people who have Faith 'delusional and irrational' probably won't get you a listening ear either - mocking someone or disrespecting their beliefs by calling them irrational, delusional or superstitious won't get you very far in a debate because you've already shut the door on them by inadvertently dismissing them because they believe something you don't.
- Mimio0
Of course it's wrong it violates personal freedoms which is one half of the balancing act invloved in establishing morality and social order.
- flagellum0
Pony, It's my BELIEF that most religious people are delusional and irrational. How's that sound? any better? It's also my belief to refrain from showing respect to any supernatural beliefs.
Mimio
(Nov 1 06, 13:01)Just as I believe it is delusional and irrational to believe that non-telic natural processes produced both matter and mind. And I refrain from showing respect to any naturalistic mystery religions based on 19th century data.

Pony,
I understand, but my words aren't attempting to fortify themselves with the threat of perpetual torment in the event that you might disagree. So, I sleep well at night.
- TheBlueOne0
Flagellum, never said you did. In fact I believe that you don't advocate it.
I'm making more of a general point to the christians that do, especially the Dominioists who have actual levers of power in their hands in this country.
Flagellum, I think yo're alright. I don't subscrbe to your beliefs, but you're alright..arguing about ID to me has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality or the divine, so I gave up on it. I know what I believe, based on weighing the evidence I have examined and the judgement and reason the universe has provided me. Best I can do. I ended up at a different place than you.

That's the beauty of Amerka, BlueOne. We can agree to disagree and be civil about it. And have spirited debate at the same time.
The issue of religion in government is tricky. Because you are always going to have people with strong religious commitments and convictions in powerful government leadership positions. I'm of the opinion that it was the strong religious convictions of many of the founding fathers of this nation which made it so strong and special. *cue patriotic music here.

I concur, and those personal convictions led to ruling with fairness, honesty and integrity, not pushing a particular concept of god down peoples throats or funding "faith based inititives" with tax dollars to solve political problems.

So who wants to bet that John Kerry will be a topic of discussion between Bush and Rush on his show tomorrow? And let's see, Rush will say all kind sof inflamatory things about Kerry and by implication, veiled and otherwise, about the Democrats, and then Bush will say something like "Well, Rush, let's not beat a dead horse..and oh yeah, don't mess with Texas" and Rush will say something like "There you go Ladies and Gentleman, a real leader like Bush is magnanomous and forgiving, not like the vile back-stabbing democrats..."
I got $100 on it...that's how it's going to go down..

TheBlueOne are you one of those blind politicians who only see wrong on one side or are you able to see both sides? I'm honestly curious and do not mean to insult you.
