The local news in my city is not even reporting the fact that Kerry aimed this at Bush and not at the troops. Kerry botched the joke, and if you look at the actual comment, it wouldn't make sense if he was talking about the troops. Even John McCain is asking for Kerry to apologize, some fucking hero.

in Boston they're quick to explain Kerry's intent, but still, it's being made out as a big deal that 'is sure to affect next week's elections for the Democratic party'.
Silly comment (or botched joke) though. I heard Kerry and Bush had very similar GPAs at Yale

who the hell is john kerry and what the fuck is 'plenty smart'?
don't answer

i'm with you dobs, but that was the worst timing, situation, and delivery of a *very* long-range chance at making a joke.
he should have just said 'i hate bush. would you morons please vote anyone but his family in again?!?"
i hate the 2 party political system....

Haha, I love how he just keeps reeming them when they ask him to apologise.
- blastofv0
it's a shame if anyone votes for or against someone in their local elections because of what John Kerry said, or because of what Mark Foley did (not that they're comparable)... but the media thinks people make up their mind based on these mini and not-so-mini scandals from outside their states/districts. Just silly. it's so much easier to assign credit and blame to entire political parties than to look at actual issues.

It was a shitty joke for sure.
I can't believe McCain's comments though, I cannot believe for one second that he thinks Kerry could have meant it the way the GOP is framing it.
- blastofv0
every time I think I could like McCain, he does something like this - blindly towing the party line because he's their big war hero, and he has to chime in.
McCain, and anyone else who saw it, can easily see he wasn't talking about the guys on the ground.

it's all comedy.
we have elections here this month as well, and i tell you, it's all comedy.

It really pisses me off when you see McCain talk about "courage" constantly and then he does things like this.
The most damning evidence that it is all politics is that none of the republicans who are speaking out against Kerry are even mentioning his statements afterwards.

It's all politics mrdobolina. Not politics on one side. They are all playing and whipping us into their game.
Kerry really missed poorly, the republicans are making this a bigger deal than it is and now Kerry buries himself further by not apologizing and falling on more reverse blame.
Don't even fall into their bullshit.

(Nov 1 06, 05:26)That is hands-down the most sensible thing i've ever heard out of balance.

conflating one botched joke with catastrophic failure of values and vision
typical republican bullshit

Botched the joke? I say fuck him and the horse he road in on.
He'll never live that one down. My family members have been served in the military since the Forty-Eighters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For…
I don't care how bad Bushie might be, FUCK OFF KERRY! Not funny at all.

I dont see it as being the same thing at all.
John Kerry tells a bad joke about the president being a dipshit, which most people know is true.
The republicans re-frame the argument falsely and retaliate.
I am not seeing how these things are equal. Even Bush supporters know he isn't a very intellectual guy.
