And don't change my argument and set up a straw man...At what point did I say it invalidated a faith? Please, find it, you know, you are so good at carefully reading texts, please find where I said it invalidates a faith?
I said these guys have followers who follow THEIR interpretation of the bible and become powerful and use that influence to chastise others with REAL WORLD consequences in the political sphere.
Hypocrisy. It invalidates this guys methodology and his interpretation of the Bible, of whom he has millions of followers. It doesn't undermine CHristianity, nor would I claim that as Jesus himself would be prretty distraught at this crap, which is my point from day one.

Yay! Brookoi knows how to copy and paste all the logical fallacies without knowing what they mean! Congrats on that.

flagellum, you do understand that politics ruin religion and religion ruins politics, right?
The instant the two meet, both are weakened.

BlueOne: No need to be insulting. And I do believe that Haggard is a hypocrite. So am I. So is every Christian I know. Praise be to God for his mercy in Jesus Christ!
My point was that the hypocrisy of fallen sinful humans just demonstrates that we are indeed sinful and in need of a savior. It testifies to what the Bible teaches. See the book of Romans - especially chapter 7.
And it is true that these guys have "followers". But they are wrong to follow a fallen human. The role of a pastor is to simply dispense God's word to the people. Period. To teach them the precepts and principles of the Bible. The error you make is in equating a personal integrity mistake of this individual with his teachings to his flock. It may invalidate his personal testimony and it may certainly dissillusion his flock and many others, but their hope needs to rest in the person of Jesus Christ, not a fallible pastor.

mrdobolina: that is too general a statement. You fail to see the nuances of people and politics in this regard. There will always be religious people in political leadership positions. Everybody has a world view and that world view influences their decisions. It has always been this way and it will always be this way. You can't just say: no religion in politics! I mean, what are you talking about!?

and BlueOne, I did Straw Man your argument. I got what you were saying confused with what Mimio was saying. Lots of people to respond to here. ;)

I refuse prima facia that human beings are "fallen", thus I refuse to believe in christianity. It's the lie at the heart of christianity that gives it power as it then has a solution for the very problem it creates!
"See kid, you're fallen, you're a bad apple, from bad seed.."
"I am?"
"Yeah, bad, bad, bad...says so right here in this book. Go ahead, read it yourself if you don't believe me."
"Oh my...Well how do I fix it?"
"Lucky for you kid, I got the answer right here..."
It's the hucksterism in the whole screwup of Jesus message...millenium long con game..

BlueOne: with your presupposition about human nature we don't have any common ground. Because I do indeed believe everyone is born into this world with a sin-nature. And I disagree that it presents a solution to it's own dilemna and is therefore self-refuting. Rather it identifies our problem and points us to our need.
Anyway, I agree to disagree. ;)

*buys coke. Agrees to disagree, even heatedly.
- flagellum0
but maybe you were confusing the doctrine of original sin with Darwinian Evolution, which explains everything and therefore explains nothing.
